Activities Planned at Fossil Beds in September
 
fossil beds Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is open year round. During September, the Monument is open 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. (with extended hours 8:00 am - 6:00 pm during Labor Day Weekend)
 
Daily Interpretive Program Schedule
 
During the month of September there will be limited interpretive programs offered daily depending upon staffing levels. These programs may include talks, walks, fossil demonstrations, and tours of an 1878 homestead. Please call ahead for more details at 719.748.3253.
 
Weekly Programs:
 
Yoga Hikes, Mondays, 9:00 am - 10:30 pm. Meet at the visitor center.

Fossil Demonstration Excavation Site, Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. This site is located off the Petrified Forest Loop approximately 1 mile round trip from the visitor center.
 
There are no additional fees for any park programs beyond the daily entrance fee of $7 per adult (15 and younger are free). For additional information, please call 719.748.3253 or visit our website.

Public Lands Fee Free Day at Florissant Fossil Beds
 
National Park Service Enjoy your public lands for free at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument on National Public Lands Day 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday, September 22.  The Monument has 15 miles of hiking trails, a museum and film, and self-guided trails. Kids can earn a Junior Ranger Badge by completing a Junior Ranger gamebook available at the visitor center desk.

CASA Holding First Ever Light of Hope in Teller County 
 
CASA of the Pikes Peak Region
is holding its first annual CASA Light of Hope Teller fundraising breakfast in Woodland Park on Tuesday, September 18. Seating is limited, so if you would like to attend, please RSVP today by emailing Jill at jillc@casappr.org.  
 
Light of Hope  
CASA helps abused and neglected children in Teller and El Paso Counties.  To address the growing need in Teller County, CASA opened a new office in Divide.  All proceeds from this month's event will remain in Teller County. The breakfast will be at the Shining Mountain Golf Course on Tuesday, September 18.  Check in is from 7:00 am to 7:30 am, followed by a 1 hour program featuring a local family who has been positively impacted by CASA.

US 24 Rockfall Mitigation, Cascade to Manitou Springs (completion approximately October, 2018)

8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, Monday, September 17 through Thursday, September 20 and 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 21
  • Monday through Thursday eastbound and westbound motorists can expect a single lane configuration with east and westbound traffic head to head on the eastbound lane 
  • On Friday motorists can expect a westbound single lane closure 
  • Monday through Friday has barrier work for the east side of the eastbound lane between Ridge Road and 31st St
  • Drivers are asked to obey all speed limit reductions and construction road signs 
  • Allow extended commute time for congestion in the work zone
  • There is an 11 foot width restriction during working hours
  • Work consists of setting barriers, installing check dams, and scaling between Cascade and Manitou Springs (mile post 294 - 301)
  • Bicyclists are discouraged from riding through the construction zone during hours of operations
Work is to stabilize large boulders and rocks above from falling onto the highway. For the protection of the traveling public and workers, traffic is moved to the outside lanes to create a safe buffer under where mitigation is taking place. This work is taking place between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Crews are not working during morning and evening commute times, and are off the road on Saturdays and Sundays.
