EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT GRANT Teller and El Paso Counties

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center has $50,000 in Employee Development Training Grants to award to companies who want to train their current employees.

Funded by the federal Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, the grants must be used to provide training to employees to retain a skilled workforce or avert the need for layoffs.

Preference is given to in-demand industries, such as information technology and cyber security, manufacturing, health care, hospitality and tourism – and to companies whose training leads to expansion of duties for employees.

Options for training include a variety of work-based, virtual or classroom training for current employees that will increase the competitiveness of both employees and the business. Employers are able to choose the training that will best meet the needs of their company and their employees.

Past examples of training include:
  • Multi-industry systems technician (MIST) programming
  • Lean manufacturing
  • Six Sigma
  • Total productive maintenance (TPM)
  • Advanced programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Value stream mapping
  • Customized ISO
  • Rapid cycle product innovation
  • AC/DC electricity
  • Electrical schematics
  • Motors and controls
  • Advanced hydraulic
  • Business soft skills training, including focus on communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, strategic planning, resiliency training, critical thinking and problem solving

The deadline for employers to apply is Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.

Employers must attend one of these virtual information sessions about how to apply: on Tuesday, January 5 (from 10 to 11 AM), or Thursday, January 7, 2021 (from 3 to 4 PM).

Applications will be reviewed, and grantees chosen by Monday, Jan. 25, 2021.

All training for employees must be completed by Monday, May 31, 2021.

For more information or to view the application, visit ppwfc.org/grants-for-worker-training.
SBA EIDL Loan Application Deadline is Dec 31st!

If you are interested in applying for a COVID-EIDL long term loan, as authorized under the CARES Act, the deadline for application submissions is December 31,2020.

An EIDL, or Economic Injury Disaster Loan, provides small businesses (500 employees or less) and nonprofits with low-interest loans that can provide vital economic support to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue due to a disaster.

EIDL loans are originated directly through the SBA and not a lender. Like any loan program, the merits should be weighed on their benefit to your company’s specific set of circumstances. These loans (not grants) carry favorable loan terms but are secured loans with a lien filing on the business assets of the Borrower.
·    As the EIDL declaration period for COVID-19 comes to a close, there are some items that bear emphasis: Applications should be completed and submitted on the SBA Disaster website by December 31, 2020. For COVID-19 applicants, the form may be found at https://covid19relief.sba.gov.
·    If an applicant does not have all the tax documents at hand at the time of application, that is not an automatic screen out. As long as the applicant submits the application and the IRS form 4506-T, SBA can begin processing.
·    If document collection will take some time, the applicant can withdraw their application and will then have six months to submit the required information.
·    If applications are already in a processing stage or in the reconsideration stage, will those continue forward to final decision, even after the initial application deadline.
·    More information can be found at www.sba.gov/disaster.
US 24 Ute Pass Projects

When it comes to our local roads, we all want potholes filled, bridges repaired, and roadways made safer. That's why CDOT Region 2 is happy to announce - and celebrate - the completion of multiple US 24 improvements from 8th Street in Colorado Springs to Woodland Park.

US 24 is a critical commuter and tourism corridor through Ute Pass to several towns and to the mountains. It has undergone a substantial number of much needed upgrades in the past four years including repairing bridges, repaving, new guardrails, filling potholes and making safer intersection improvements.

CDOT recognizes that safety improvements can also bring a number of construction inconveniences. The project team and partners - El Paso County, City of Colorado Springs and City of Manitou Springs - thanks the traveling public for its patience.

Learn more about these CDOT projects at:
