Fun at the Beach

We had the pleasure of going to Bolivar, Texas, in early September to celebrate Allan's mom's birthday. Nearly the entire family was able to attend, and we had a wonderful time. Thought you might enjoy seeing some of the highlights.

Getting ready for the seafood feast
Batman and nephew JB cleaning up
Enjoying shrimp, crab, and blackened fish. The leftovers went into gumbo.

Allan and I with his 89 year old mother, Doris. She had such a good time and was so grateful that we could all be there

Election Year Turkey

When my bible study group visited recently they pointed out that we had a very
patriotic turkey. If you are having a hard time deciding which turkey to vote
for this November, I would like to suggest that you vote for our Tom,
although like all the others running he is constantly strutting his stuff.

Peaches from our Orchard

Some of the peaches we were able to get from our peach tree this year. I was worried that the birds were going to get them before they were ready to pick and a friend suggested that I cover each peach with a piece of old pantyhose, of which I had plenty! Worked great, especially since there weren't all that many peaches.

I wish I could say they tasted awesome, but in fact, even after peeling, they were a little bitter. I am thinking it may have something to do with it being our first real harvest, as well as not enough time ripening on the tree. I am really looking forward to next year and hope that the tree produces again.

The Harvest

I just LOVE living in the country. Some of my friends in Arboles had bumper crops this year and shared their spoils with me. I have lots of dehydrated tomatoes, and canned tons of tomatoes and tomato sauce.

Made a darn good pie with
apples I was given.

In Closing . . .

Allan headed out yesterday to Eastern Colorado on a long awaited antelope hunt with his good friend Preston. While fall means picking, canning, and freezing fruits and vegetables for me, it ushers in hunting season for Allan. Without a doubt it is our favorite time of the year. God has provided such abundance for His people that it is a wonder we ever worry. But we do. I must constantly remind myself that He promises He will provide. It is a day to day struggle, but one I know is shared by many of you. God bless each one of you with abundance, and the faith to recognize and receive His many blessings.
