The Nature Trust of BC is pleased to announce the purchase of Princeton Grasslands Phase I, now known as Princeton Grasslands – MapleCross Meadow. This 1,100 acre property located near Princeton protects B.C.’s rare grasslands.
Grasslands cover only 1%
of British Columbia but they
provide habitat for 30%
of BC’s species at risk.
Princeton Grasslands
–
MapleCross Meadow will protect habitat for many species including the threatened Lewis’ Woodpecker and the endangered Williamson’s Sapsucker.
There are less than 1000 mature William’s Sapsuckers that live in Canada during the crucial breeding season, from March to September. Like other sapsucker species, they sometimes eat insects or other prey caught in sap from the holes they drill in tree bark.
