Grassroots Giving Goes International

The grassroots nature of STA’s affiliate organizations is more than just political activism. It is also about the charitable work each and every affiliate does within its local community. Many of the charities are not well known outside of their immediate areas, which makes the support from the affiliates even more impactful.

Now, for the first time, an STA affiliate has turned its sights on a part of the world that is experiencing significant hardship and turmoil, in need of humanitarian aid. On Tuesday, June 28, STA New York Women in Finance will host a river walk and networking cocktails fundraiser to benefit Razom, a New York-based charity that provides aid on the ground in Ukraine. Razom recently completed its one-thousandth order of supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Territorial Defense units and local hospitals in eastern Ukraine.

Razom means “together” in Ukrainian. This simple word serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community during times of crisis. In what has been reported as the largest refugee crisis since World War II, there is an extraordinary need to come together and give back.

This sentiment – coming together – has taken on greater importance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which required international collaboration and humanitarian aid to combat. Bumps in the road notwithstanding, we have reaffirmed that when we come together to respond to crises, both as local communities and as an international family, we can bring hope to those impacted by great tragedy.

While Ukraine sits 4,700 miles from North American shores, there is a bond that exists due in part to the more than 1 million Ukrainians living in the U.S. and 1.3 million in Canada. As the four-month mark of the invasion approaches, we must turn our hearts, minds and efforts to the humanitarian and human rights crisis in Ukraine. We hope that you will join STANY Women in Finance in raising money to help the women and children impacted by the ongoing war, and to remind those facing unimaginable pain in Ukraine that they are not forgotten.
