Dream Journal – October 2021
We are so excited to share with you wonderful news of two outstanding new grants that have just been approved.
Women Empowerment and Life Skills
CCDO is honored to be the recipient of the Soroptimists International President’s appeal for “Opening Doors to a Bright Future”. CCDO will be implementing a life skills program to empower women in our rural community. This two year $48,000 grant will help girls who dropped out of school early and marginalized women. We will give them a hand up to achieve a better life. We will offer support and teach them a variety of skills in order to help them reach a basic educational level with opportunities to start small enterprises so that they can be independent and improve their lives.
Thank you, Maureen Maguire, incoming International Soroptomist President
Feeding the communities & continuing our breakfast program
Through our wonderful long term partner Lantern Projects we were introduced to The Katz Foundation, working internationally to alleviate hunger. They have approved our application and are providing a generous grant of $39,000 to help with food security in Cambodian villages.

We will be able to continue and expand our successful agriculture micro loan project. This project will help feed the community as well as fund our free school breakfast. The grant will help the farmers in the area by providing low interest seeds loan for growing vegetables and rice. The farmers are able to provide the community with affordable locally grown food.

The sales of the produce repay the micro loan and those generated funds are then helping feed our school children a free nutritious breakfast every morning. The grant will allow CCDO to expand into a new area and feed an additional 5,000 children.

Thank you, Gail Uilkema, founder and president of Lantern Projects for your invaluable introduction.

Donors

California Luncheon
Our president, Jenni Lipa, returned states side for a short visit. In California our board member, Jennifer Forney, hosted a luncheon for some of our Northern California donors. Jenni gave a short report on the continuing work under difficult Covid conditions.

Gail Uilkema presented a check for $39,000 for the expanded food program.
