Greetings!

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who died while serving in the military. Thank you to our town staff and volunteers in Acton and Boxborough who created virtual celebrations to help us come together.

Today’s grief is exacerbated by the world’s staggering loss of life. Each of us is forced to deal with grief in new ways. We can’t take individual or collective grief away, but we can stay connected and turn toward each other. A card, a conversation, a flower, cookies on your front step, an email or call. These gentle acts of empathy and kindness continue to give me hope.

I am grateful for those who served our nation. Service has taken on a new urgency, whether at the national or local level, whether you are a professional or a volunteer, whether you are on the frontlines in the ICU or wiping the grocery shelves. Thank you for all those who serve in ways big and small.

Thank you to our military men and women who died while serving.
We honor you.

Griet Dehandschutter
Executive Director
Join Our Virtual Annual Meeting
A-B United Way's annual meetings, free and open to all, are always festive, fun and enlightening. Join us on Tuesday, June 9 from 7-8:15 PM for our first-ever virtual annual meeting to celebrate community.

Learn about local community needs during COVID-19. See what we can accomplish when we come together to tackle complex problems. Celebrate volunteerism and agencies dedicated to the common good.

Watch for your email invitation to register . You will receive the program, a virtual event link and, following the event, our impact report.
#GivingTuesdayNow Success
On May 5th, our #GivingTuesdayNow rally for A-B residents in need was a big success! We received over 100 donations, raising a total of $24,650, thanks to the generous $15,000 match by the Orange Door Fund.

You all helped our COVID-19 Impact Fund surpass the $175,000 mark in less than two months!
Help Us Reach Neighbors In Need
A-B United Way is working in tandem with town officials and faith communities to distribute emergency funds. If you or someone you know needs financial assistance, contact your town social worker or local faith community today.

Acton and Boxborough residents can quickly and easily receive a grant, as well as access a range of support programs.

Citizenship status does not matter.

Check out Frequently Asked Questions about the grants and other free resources . Information is available in six languages.

EAT 💜 PLAY 💜 LOVE
Who says you can't take baking classes virtually? On Thursday, June 18 at 7:30 PM, Karen Collins, President-Elect of A-B United Way and Founder of Bisousweet Confections , will host "Eat, Play, Love," a virtual cookie decorating event.

Registration of $25 (or $40 if you don't live locally), includes a cookie kit delivered to your doorstep with all necessary cookie and decorating materials, no baking required! Join the fun and learn from a pro. Open to everyone, this entertaining social event will conclude with a playful trivia twist. All proceeds will go to A-B United Way's  Annual Fund.

A Community Conversation: Life Interrupted
Celebrating Students
Extended Day in February seems oh so long ago.

A-B United Way was the lucky recipient of a delicious "chocolate" fundraiser, organized by these enterpreneurial 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

The students sold self-made chocolate candy for $1/piece and raised over $150.

Griet thanked the students this week via zoom for their donation.

We can now surprise families in need at Mt. Calvary Community Supper with $25 gift cards.
The Gift of Books
A-B United Way teamed up with Friends of the Acton Memorial Library to provided packaged children's books to Acton Food Pantry guests. Families with children were excited to receive new reading material. More book distributions will follow for residents of all ages.
