This is one of my favorite times of the year. A time when families come together and celebrate family old traditions and create new ones. This year, Aaron, Angel, Charlotte, Darryl, Ella, Liam, Mateo, Nikki, Oliver, Olivia, Scarlett, Sophia, Trip, and Valentina were welcomed to the Safe Haven for Newborns family. These 14 precious little ones today are getting ready to enjoy their first Christmas with their forever families and starting their own holiday traditions. It brings me such joy to have been able to be a part of their lives by helping their birth mothers feel supported and capable of making the decision that was right for her and newborn.
Despite the challenges of 2020, A Safe Haven for Newborns has been there for the expectant mother, offering her the support she needs at the time she needed it the most. From providing referrals to counseling, shelter, parenting, health-related issues, adoption, and confidentially placing the newborn at a safe haven location, our goal is to provide her with the information and resources she will need to make an informed decision that will be in the best interest of her unborn child and hers. All the services are provided at no charge to the expectant mother.
The year 2020 was not what any of us expected. A year filled with challenges and heartache. A year where “social distancing” became part of our everyday vocabulary and we no longer could see the bright, warm smiles of our friends and loved ones because we wore a mask. But one thing did remain the same, we can still see is the light and love in the eyes of our family and friends.
For Safe Haven for Newborns, it has been a tough year. As you all know, we had to postpone all of our fundraising events. Even experiencing this setback, we continued to be the lifeline for the expectant mother by providing her with the services and essentials she and her newborn needed. We assisted several new mothers who opted to keep their babies by providing them with baby items such as diapers, baby clothing and other baby-related items in addition to providing other needed services.
