UPCOMING EVENTS & INFO

Thanksgiving Break

November 21st-25th

If your student is coming home for the break, here are a few things to consider before they arrive.

  1. They'll need time to decompress.
  2. Finals are looming.
  3. Expect (and support) change.
  4. Get the real scoop.

This article goes into more detail on these items and will hopefully give you some insight into these topics.

If your student is staying on campus this week, there will be a Friendsgiving Feast Tuesday, 11/22, from 12:00-2:00 in the Dining Hall.

Family traditions are worth it but may need to adapt and evolve.

Your family traditions may change as your children grow up. They will outgrow some and others won't seem as important to them. However, traditions reinforce the importance of spending time together and that's what it's really all about. So don't push back too much when your adult children start changing the traditions, enjoy them while you have them there and make new traditions! Read this article about family traditions during the college years.

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, and there is so much to be grateful for. Help your student acknowledge the people and things that have been helpful in their life this year. Whether your student is home or away over the break, tell your student what you're grateful for about them, and encourage them to work hard for the rest of the semester. If you find that they are unmotivated, ask them to think about the positive experiences they have had.
