Gratitude, Helping Others, and Sleep

Dear Friends of YANA,

We wanted to share some insights from Yale's Happiness Professor Laurie Santos, who teaches the renowned course on The Science of Well-Being. According to Laurie, three core pillars of happiness are:

  • Getting more sleep
  • Practicing gratitude
  • Helping others

At the heart of YANA's mission is the emphasis on Gratitude and Helping Others: gratitude for the opportunity and privilege of a Yale education – and channeling that gratitude into helping others.

Each one of you brings unique talents, perspectives, and experiences and it is this diversity that fuels our community.

Together, we have the opportunity to leverage this powerful combination to address some of the most pressing challenges facing our communities and the world at large. Through our collective effort we can dismantle barriers, empower the marginalized, and create access to opportunities where there were only obstacles.

YANA also stands for You Are Not Alone – together we are stronger, together we can maximize our collective impact, and together we are building community.

Please contribute to YANA

This holiday season, we wish you joy, warmth... and lots of happiness-inducing sleep!

Sincerely,

Andrea McChristian ‘08
