Beyond Monthly Yoga Tip

Well, Fall is officially here and what beautiful weather we are having! That being said, weather wise, Fall is typically an uncertain season. It's cold, it's hot, it's windy, it's wet, it's dry...We never know what we are going to get. Combining the uncertainty of the weather with the busyness of the season can leave us feeling frazzled. One of the ways to bring more balance to our days is to review our habits and routines. And, when it comes to our yoga practice, simply choosing a day(s) and time(s) to practice and making that practice time a priority is a great way to bring steadiness to an unsteady season.

Our new schedule has begun! In addition to your favourite classes our new offerings include:

  • Mondays, 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. Gentle and Restorative Yoga with Dawn-Marie
  • Mondays, 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. Gentle Yoga with Ivana
  • Tuesdays, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Restorative Yoga with Glenda
  • Tuesdays, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Hatha Yoga with Justine
  • Wednesdays, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga with Lisa
  • Thursdays, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Nia (soulful dance) with Ann
  • Fridays, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Pilates with Laura
  • Sundays 9:15 - 10: 15 a.m. Flow 1-2 with Diane

Join Sharon Ziai for a 6 week introduction to belly dancing series at Beyond!

Belly dancing is a fun dance form that promotes balance, flexibiity, coordination and confidence. These easy to follow classes will help you learn core moves and techniques that are fundamental in belly dancing - all done to beautiful middle eastern music!

All fitness levels are welcomed.

Clothing: wear whatever is comfortable for you to move in. You can wear regular exercise gear such as yoga pants.

Footwear: No footwear is recommended, but can be a dance or ballet slippers - non-marking soles only please.

Dates: Saturdays, October 14 to November 11

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The foam roller and tune-up balls give you a deep tissue massage and myofascial release, easing the muscle knots, relieving inflammation and improving overall comfort.

It also increases your range of motion, flexibility and mobility while boosting your circulation and lymphatic flow.

Because you are doing this yourself it vastly increases your core and upper body strength.

We’ll be working on all those tight spots in the shoulders and neck, getting all the aches out of the back.

You’ll love the work on the feet and the knees.

Yoga Teacher Trainings

Over the next 20 years, Canada’s seniors’ population — those age 65 and older — is expected to grow by close to 70 %. As the population continues to age, it is more important than ever for seniors to take a proactive approach to their health. Falls are much more likely to occur as we get older. A regular and accessible yoga practice that not only builds strength and flexibility but also maintains and improves the body’s complex balancing systems, can contribute to a healthy quality of life in later years.

This Chair Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program is designed to provide yoga teachers, senior fitness instructors and health care professionals with the knowledge needed to offer chair yoga practices to seniors and/or those who have physical challenges, pre-existing medical conditions or who might be recovering from an injury.

Many of the principles can be translated to someone who sits at a desk all day or who is new to yoga and wants an accessible practice.

Dates: Saturday and Sunday November 4 and 5

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • How to measure a ball for a student;
  • How to practice Hatha yoga postures on the ball;
  • How to know when a student is ready or not ready for a pose;
  • Variations of the same posture for accessibility;
  • How the ball gives you the support to work on a more challenging pose;
  • Sequences for a beginner and intermediate class; and
  • And how to make it a whole lot of fun.

You will feel confident in offering beginner and intermediate Yoga on the Ball classes to: 

  • Improve balance;
  • Increase flexibility;
  • Improve mindfulness; and
  • Strengthen the core.

Date: Saturday November 25, 2023

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
