Greetings!

This fall has been full of exciting growth—from expanding our classroom programs into Oregon, to deepening our community impact and advocating for plant-powered school meals nationwide. Read on for great news, a call to ACTION, and delicious holiday recipes 🍁 Wishing you a Happy THANKS Day 🧡

Hello Portland, Oregon!

This fall, HKHP is bringing our live classroom presentations and assemblies to Portland Public Schools. We've already reached 1,000 students this semester with interactive lessons, educating students about how eating mostly plants can improve health, protect the planet, and support a more just food system.

Portland is celebrated as one of the most plant-forward cities in the nation — with one of the highest numbers of vegetarian and vegan restaurants per capita — yet plant-based options have yet to take root in many PPS cafeterias. With nearly half of Portland schools classified as Title I, demand for accessible nutrition education that connects food, equity, and the environment is stronger than ever.

Community Impact in Action

In addition to our classroom programs, the HKHP team has been busy engaging with the San Diego community this fall!

We recently attended the 2025 Live Well Advance and School Summit, where we connected with local educators and organizations who share our passion for sustainable living.

We spent a beautiful day in Encinitas at Coastal Roots Farm’s Annual Sukkot Harvest Festival—playing games and sharing how plant-based eating supports healthier, longer lives.

The San Diego Sustainable Food Festival was a blast, where we tabled, shared resources on plant-based eating, and delivered a featured talk, “How to Eat Like You Give a F*ck!”

Looking ahead, our team is excited to attend the National Farm to School Network Annual Conference this December in Albuquerque, NM. We’ll be sharing best practices and strengthening partnerships with schools and nutrition professionals committed to expanding plant-based options for students.

Support Health and Equity in School Meals!

The Plant Powered School Meals Pilot Act (H.R. 5867) would give schools the resources to offer healthy plant-based meals and expand access to nondairy milk—removing current barriers in federal law. At a time when children are at greater risk for diabetes, high cholesterol, and other diet-related diseases, plant-based options are needed now more than ever.
