"Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." Voltaire
We are right in the middle of harvest and it's going remarkably well. Our long, hot summer and warm (mostly) dry September created virtually ideal grape-growing conditions. I say 'virtually ideal' because well, as grape farmers we might have appreciated a little more sun, a little less rain, or slightly cooler nights. Still, it has been an excellent vintage for us and the other wineries in Niagara.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we remember the many things for which we are thankful. We can give thanks when we take a little gratitude survey around the dinner table, or just by a mental note of thanks. The best Thanksgiving grows from an appreciation of family, friends and food.

"It is not joy that makes us grateful, it is gratitude that makes us joyful." D. Steinall-Rast
We propose yet another means of adding Joy to your life- and this is with a glass of our Cuvée Joy sparkling wine. It will make you both grateful and joyful, in a wonderfully contagious way. Our sparkling wines are made in the méthode traditionelle of Champagne...but of course, we can't call them 'Champagnes' because we make them here in Niagara.

Cuvee Joy and Cuvee Joy Rosé are available by visiting the winery, by ordering from our on-line store ( www. featherstonewinery.ca/shop for wine) or in very limited LCBO release. Use the LCBO product number '450700' or '310334' to search the LCBO website www.vintages.com to find the wine at a store near you on the release date.

" For ease of opening, this is sealed under crown cap. It bubbles over with frothy mousse and a delightful array of barely off-dry palate flavours with bright red currant, ripe strawberry and oodles of tang to the fore. It’s medium weight and showcases a monumentally lengthy lip-smacking finish and aftertaste. Pour with an assortment of appetizers."

" Wow” … next sip … “Wow” … next sip … “Wow” … this is truly the best bubble made at Featherstone to date. Toasty notes with some lemon and apple fruit mid-palate along with green apple on the finish, great minerality and acidity to make the finish clean and refreshing but still with a long and elegant length on that finish; this wine is food ready for anything, and I do mean try pairing this with ANYTHING.” ****1/2

We are happy that Black Sheep Riesling, our signature wine, is now a little bit more available to you, our loyal fans. The LCBO has moved it into their 'Essentials' category, where it will sit alongside our Cabernet Franc.
We've long considered these wines essential, and we're charmed the LCBO does as well.

“Featherstone's Black Sheep Riesling is one of the best Niagara Rieslings. Vintage after vintage, the Riesling is consistent citrus and flinty, lemon blossom and lime zest. Fresh and clean and a perfect pairing to fried chicken. Featherstone's Black Sheep Riesling stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of Niagara Rieslings.”

“Wow, truly the best Cabernet Franc in recent memory from Featherstone … and they have made some excellent Cabernet Franc over the years; This fruit forward 2016 has loads of black fruit: cherry, berry and even some blueberry notes, plus typical Franc characteristics of tobacco leaf backing it all … another great job with this grape and so well-priced. Buy a half-dozen – some to cellar, some for now. “

" Even though we can't have all that we want, we ought to be thankful that we don't get what we deserve ." M. Friedman

Or as The Rolling Stones put it: "You can't always get what you want/But if you try sometimes you might find/You get what you need." We will take a deserved (we believe) and needed break over the winter months to recharge.
So, the tasting room closes for the season on Sunday Dec 9, 2018 at 5:30 pm. Nevertheless, we'll be happy to peel ourselves off the couch and ship wine to your home address (if your home is in Ontario) anytime. The office will be open with limited hours over the winter.
The tasting room will re-open for the new season on April 5, 2019.
We believe that gratitude, unlike turkey, is rarely overdone. We hope you have much to be grateful for in your busy lives and that you're able to take a moment to appreciate those around you.
As Thanksgiving dinner appears and then in short order disappears, I think that the one thing I may be thankful for is an elastic waistband…
