The Gardens is throwing an OKClipse viewing party on the Great Lawn Monday, August 21, 11:30am-2:30pm. Enjoy “space” music, food and educational activities on this rare occurrence for all ages at no charge. Here's a list:
- Seating Area—Take a seat or bring a lawn chair or blanket.
- Eclipse Glass Stations: Pick up a pair of eclipse glasses on site the day of the event for safe viewing of the eclipse! $1 suggested donation. Must be used at the Gardens. Sharing is encouraged.
- Education Info Table: Speak with our education team on what is actually happening as you are watching it!
- Craft: Kids can create their own eclipse out of paper plates.
- Food for Thought: Make fruit rockets with Whole Foods and our friend Matt Joplin from Food for Thought.
- Space Food: Selling Moon Pies for $2 and star sprinkled popcorn for $1.
- Planet Bingo: Play planet BINGO with us!
- Imagination Playground presented by Express Employment Professionals: kids can create their own masterpiece with our over-sized building blocks
- Food Trucks: Grab some lunch while you’re out viewing history. Enjoy Kona Ice, Phill Me Up Cheesesteaks and Cutie Pies onsite for lunch hour

ICYMI Cat Video Festival was a rain out last Saturday. It was rescheduled for tonight BUT after much review of the forecast we decided to move it to Sunday, September 10 on the same day as Celebration of the Animals (see below). Thanks for your patience.
Film starts at 8pm but put on your whiskers and cat ears and enjoy pre-screening festivities complete with food trucks, live music with Jenkins Valley from 6:30pm – 7:30pm, drinks and more.
Food vendors include Hall’s Pizza Kitchen, Healthy Hippo, Brown’s Kitchen, Parking Lot Party, Katie Bugs Shaved Ice, Cute Pies, Fresh Ice and Pitchfork in the Park.

Do you love animals? Come celebrate them with an ecumenical ceremony to bless your pets at the Gardens. Extreme Animals will show off some of their rare wildlife in a petting area, local clergy will be onsite to bless your animals, the OKC Animal Shelter will have an adoption booth and we will even have a remembrance tree where you can celebrate your pets of the past. A $2 suggested donation is requested for the remembrance tree. Enjoy food from our line of food trucks or grab a bite from Pitchfork in the Park.

Tulsan Bob Sober creates human-size images of insects through focus-stacking, in which he focuses on one section of an insect at a time and takes thousands of photos that are integrated into a final composite image, capturing the insect in exquisite detail. Displaying 29 digital images printed on aluminum, the intricate, microscopic details are visible using the layering of 700 to 2500 photos for each print. Sizes vary from 12” to 60.”

Beginning at 7pm, instructors from 3Sixty Entertainment Powerhouse will give a dance demonstration followed by a FREE lesson for all. At 8pm, our DJ Brian Smith from muttradio.com will crank up the disco tunes to get the dancing started that is guaranteed to make you shake your groove thing all night long. Drink and food specials will be offered to highlight the night.

The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, in Osage County, Oklahoma is a true gemstone in our state. With 2,500 bison on the preserve, wildflowers and native grasses galore, it is a sight to behold. The Prairie has extended a special invitation to us for a visit and behind the scenes tour of how things work. We’ll spend most of our day at the prairie visiting the beautiful trails, bison corrals and research center. Then we’ll wrap up our day with a stop off at the Pioneer Woman Mercantile for snacks and a chance to shop.

Seeking contract artists
The Myriad Botanical Gardens is hiring area artists to create Halloween-themed installations for its sixth annual Pumpkinville Fall Festival in the Children’s Garden. Last year, more than 27,000 visitors enjoyed the fun and festive fall-inspired creations placed throughout the grounds for 17 days. Installation will be due by Monday, October 2. If you would like to be a part of this year’s Pumpkinville, scheduled for October 6-22, please send examples of your work to Ashley Elkins – aelkins@myriadgardens.org
