AUGUST 9, 2024

Dear St. Martin’s,

I love Christian community, and I love serving at St. Martin’s. Every summer Wednesday is Meet and Eat. We share some delicious food from the grill and some great conversation. But last Wednesday night it started pouring down rain, and I wondered, what will happen? Should we still do it? Will anyone come?

Well, here’s what happened. Our wonderful cooks went from grill mode to kitchen mode. Our Meet and Eat regulars marched with their sides and desserts from the parking lot to the parish hall in the rain. We had to put out more tables, and our awesome cook kept putting those patties on the griddle. Parishioners and friends shared a wonderful meal. That’s some great Christian community.

This Sunday, we’ll hear from St. Paul about how to be in community together and how to live in relationship with others. Our sermon will be, “Be kind. Forgive. Live in Love.” Be sure come and hear about how God calls you to live in love with your fellow parishioners, families, co-workers and everyone you meet. Come and receive the bread of life in Jesus Christ at Communion and worship God in prayer. We can’t wait to see you in church this Sunday.

Many blessings,

~ The Reverend Nathan Erdman, Associate Rector and Chaplain

“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

~ Ephesians 4:32a-5:2

Grocery costs will be reimbursed. Food ideas will be provided. You don’t need to be available every week! Any efforts to help are greatly appreciated. Your Prayers are Invited...

Prayer is the universal way people of faith stay connected, both with one another and with God. You are invited to pray daily for our parish family, for your own needs, and in thanksgiving for all that God has blessed you with this day.

Prayer for our Rector-Elect

Gracious Lord the giver of all life and blessings, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit we have called Rev. Lauren to be our next rector at St. Martins-in-the Field Episcopal Church. We pray that by her words and good example she may continue faithfully serving you and be a benefit in your Holy Church. May that same Holy Spirit give each of us all wisdom and imagination, energy and drive, that together we will have the ability to make ministries continue to happen in this church and in the larger community. Hear the prayers of your faithful people that in our vocation and ministry each of us may continue to be instruments of you and your blessings. We pray this in the unity of the Holy Trinity, one God, now and forever. Amen.
