1) Proximity to Canada, supply chain options, workforce, lower cost of doing business, community - these were some of the reasons two top companies chose the Great Falls Montana Region to locate their businesses. 2) The Cascade County Commission unanimously approved property tax abatements for the Great Falls Clinic hospital expansion and The Gibson boutique hotel development in downtown Great Falls.
4) Nine active duty military members participated in our second Boots to Business: An Introduction to Entrepreneurship course of 2022. Special thanks to Zach Huber, soon-to-be-owner of Action Plumbing and Construction, LTD, for coming to speak to the attendees. Since 2013, GFDA has trained over 500 veterans through the Boots to Business curriculum.
7) What began as a home-based business has exploded into a full retail and design floral business for Karen Beeler at Life in Bloom. The business outgrew its current space in a year's time. 8) The recent Housing Market Demand Assessment we commissioned has drawn several developers to consider the Great Falls market. We have the demand to support over 4,500 new units in the next 10 years. 10) Downtown Great Falls is teeming with vibrancy. We received updates from our major projects this week and all of them are moving along nicely. 11) The Otto Bremer Trust awarded GFDA a $50,000 operating grant to support our economic development efforts to create economic opportunity and improve quality of life in the 12-county Great Falls Montana trade area.

Save the dates for four new trainings we’ve recently added to our Business Education Calendar this summer. We’ll be hosting our cash flow and profitability course Profit Mastery on July 8th and July 15th . We’re also launching a new training to inspire and educate entrepreneurs about becoming a franchise owner. Becoming a Franchisee: An Alternate Path to Business Ownership will be hosted in-person July 29 and via a two-part webinar August 11 and August 18.
The Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce announced the inaugural Worlds of Work! (WOW). WOW is a career expo pioneered by West Alabama Works. Though NOT a typical job fair, this event opens new avenues of opportunity for middle school students they never knew were possible. The Chamber's goal this first year is to have sixteen Worlds, each representing one of Montana’s sixteen recognized career pathways. On October 18th, 2022, WOW will be held at Great Falls College – MSU and the University of Providence (inside and outside) from 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM. Area 8th graders will be divided into groups and will have a navigator who will guide them to each of the worlds, where they will explore for approximately 20-25 minutes before traveling to the next world. WOW Varsity, the block for high school students, will be in the late afternoon, and will include sophomores only for this first year. Check out the West Alabama WOW. The Montana Innovation Partnership is offering a number of trainings and an accelerator program for companies interested in pursuing Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants.
Great Falls College MSU is working with partners to create a CDL Truck Driving program in Great Falls. They need full-time and part-time instructors -- download job description -- and employers to support this important workforce development effort with funds, equipment, and commitments to recruit participants and hire successful graduates. USDA launched a Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) to help compensate producers with their livestock losses incurred by adverse weather or attacks by animals reintroduced into the wild by the Federal Government. In less than a year the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) will transfer to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). As of January 1, 2023, all functions of VA’s CVE will be handled by the SBA.
