Poverty Education
Separating the Myths and Facts
Myth: Poor parents aren't involved in their children's learning, largely because they don't value education.

Fact: Low-income parents hold the same attitudes about education that wealthy parents do. Low-income parents might be less likely to attend school functions or volunteer in their children's classrooms - not because they care less about education, but because they have less access to school involvement than their wealthier peers. They are more likely to work multiple jobs, to work evenings, to have jobs without paid leave, and to be unable to to afford child care and public transportation.

Wanted:
Three (3) Home Visitors for our Resilient Children & Families Programs

Pro Action is seeking three (3) compassionate, self-motivated individuals to provide Home Visiting services to families. Two Home Visitors will work with families with children from birth to 5; one will work with families with school aged children at risk of early involvement in the juvenile justice system.

Home Visitors work with families to increase their strengths and resilience and help parents promote their child’s healthy development by providing direct support services including the assessment of family strengths, needs and progress; screening and assessment of children; assisting with identification and completion of family goals; helping families access other resources; and providing 1:1 parent education and advocacy. Home Visitors will coordinate services delivered by partnering agencies.
