Dear Friends,

This week, the Dallas City Council voted to approve a long-term lease with the University of North Texas at Dallas, clearing the way for a next-generation Law Enforcement Training Center on university grounds. This milestone represents more than just a construction of a facility—it’s a foundation for the future of public safety in Dallas.

The new Law Enforcement Training Center will serve as the primary home for Dallas Police Department’s training academy and a new Criminal Justice Center, creating a comprehensive campus that blends academic opportunity with real-world training. The partnership with UNT Dallas marks a significant step toward modernizing police instruction, strengthening recruitment and embedding law enforcement education in a higher-ed environment.

The new Law Enforcement Training Center at UNT Dallas will provide:

• Education-Centered Approach: By placing the academy on a college campus, the city and UNT Dallas will collaborate on new pathways for student engagement, research, and long-term careers in public safety.

• Cutting-Edge Facilities: The planned center will feature modern classrooms, simulation labs, and specialized training environments that reflect the evolving demands of law enforcement.

• Citywide Strategy: The UNT Dallas site is part of a broader dual-campus model that will also include a new Public Safety Complex elsewhere in the city for field operations and cross-agency training.

You can read the city's press release by clicking the headline below:

City staff and community stakeholders will continue working together to refine the design of the building on the UNT Dallas campus, and the Tactical Training Center at a nearby location that will include shooting ranges, a driving track and simulated training space – ensuring that this comprehensive public safety project reflects the city’s operational goals and community values.

With gratitude,

Lynn McBee

I’m excited about this forward progress and look forward to working alongside Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux, Jennifer Staubach Gates and leaders from our City to raise the philanthropic dollars needed to complete this critical project.
