Note from the GOHA President

Great Oaks Community,

I hope everyone is enjoying the refreshing spring weather. We had a good turnout for the annual Fairfax City clean-up day. Volunteers walked the entire neighborhood picking up trash and cleaned the public areas along Lion Run and Blenheim Blvd. Thanks to all who volunteered to help keep Great Oaks looking beautiful.

Additionally, thanks to Ken Curtis, we have new plantings and an improved appearance at the front entrance. This will allow the "Great Oaks" sign to always be visible while providing plenty of vegetation and flowers around the entrance. With that, and the seasonal blooming of flowers around the community, Great Oaks is looking about as nice as I have ever seen it.

I want to recognize and thank Susanna Stockl who has been responsible for all the newsletters you've received up until now. She and her husband Steve have sold their home in Great Oaks and will be greatly missed. We wish them and their family well and thank them for all the service they've provided to Great Oaks over the years. Following newsletters will be organized by Stephanie Hoyos and we thank Stephanie for continuing the great service this newsletter provides.

Everyone stay safe and I look forward to seeing you at our Memorial Day Weekend Pool Opening BBQ.

Important Message!

Streets Re-Sealing

A reminder for everyone that re-sealing of the streets will happen this summer. More information will be passed as we get close to the event, but it will entail at least 24 hours where no one can drive on the streets. We are arranging for parking at the High School during that time. We will try to offer a chance to re-seal your driveway with ProPave at that time as well but we don't have confirmation on that yet.

"We have asked for input on the possibility of putting in new concrete curbs and gutters where they don't currently exist and there has been almost no response. We'll be making decisions on this soon - probably at the next HOA meeting. If you have opinions on curbs and gutters, please let a board member know or attend the next HOA meeting."

Pool Opening Party!

May 28th, 4pm-6pm

Join your neighbors on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend for some food, pool time and good company!

Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda and water will be provided. The rest will be potluck style. If you're able, please bring along an appetizer, fruit, side dish or dessert to share.

Volunteer to Lead Great Oaks in the "Nextdoor" Mobile App

"Nextdoor" is a mobile application that is used to connect with neighbors, offer or ask for help, buy/sell items, and join groups. We are seeking a community member to lead the Great Oaks group in Nextdoor. The Great Oaks group is currently not very active. This is a great opportunity for someone to create a more active Nextdoor group for our neighborhood.

Join our Social and Recreational Committee!

We are looking for additional members to fill our social and recreational committee spots! It is a rewarding opportunity to give back to your neighborhood by helping with the planning of events throughout the year, as well as helping with welcoming new neighbors and assisting with newsletter/social media exposure.

The more creative minds we have at our table, the easier and more fun do our community events become.
