Dear Academy Community,

We are reaching out to families who are open to a rewarding and enriching experience hosting a student from Germany. Last year, Staten Island Academy announced a partnership with Global Horizons, who brought us two new students now entering their senior year. Living with current families, both boys thrived and became active and engaged members of

our high school community. This fall, we are seeking one or two families who can provide a welcoming and supportive home environment for Jacob and Johan. Both Jacob and Johan have loved their time at Staten Island Academy and are eager to finish their American high school experience here with new families and different possibilities.

Hosting an international student offers a unique window of opportunity to share your family's way of life, while also learning about a new culture. It is a chance to form lasting friendships and make a positive impact on a young person's life. Students coming to the United States for school are enthusiastic to experience life in our country, improve their language skills, and contribute to our community. In this case, both boys are familiar with every aspect of Academy student life. They are independent and respectful young men. Jacob loves playing soccer, although side-lined this fall as he strengthens his knee, hopeful for collegiate play. Johan is all about basketball, spending any time he’s not doing school work, in the gym working out.

As a host family, you will play a pivotal role in the student's experience. They do not need to be entertained, but certainly, your generosity and openness can provide them with a sense of family and belonging far from home. Of course, there is a monthly stipend for the host family and the students themselves are responsible for the cost of any extracurricular activities. Both Jacob and Johan have loved their time at Staten Island Academy and are eager to finish their American high school experience here with new families and different possibilities.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity or know of someone who might be, please contact us at 718-303-7803 for more information. We will guide you through the application process, set up a time for you to meet the students and their families on Zoom, and provide support with both their coordinators and our own Dean of International Students.
