I'm pleased to share the event details below from the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation regarding the revamped (and socially distanced) 2020 Great Pumpkin Festival that will be held from October 28 through October 31 at Old School House Park (5240 N. Marlborough Dr). 2020 will mark the 34th year of the Great Pumpkin Festival! While it will be slightly different than in previous years, the festival will be one of Whitefish Bay's 2020 highlights! Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing? |
|
When is the next brush chipper collection? Brush will be collected by Village crews this week (October 5, 2020). Brush should be placed in the parkway between the curb and the sidewalk.
Where can I find information about fall loose leaf collection? Public Works will begin loose leaf collection on Monday, October 19 (weather permitting). Collection is typically weekly, but there is no specific collection schedule. Collection is dependent on crew availability and the volume of leaves that need to be collected. The Great Pumpkin Festival: |
|
Enjoy a festive, safe, socially distant version of Whitefish Bay's favorite fall tradition: The Great Pumpkin Festival. Read below for new details on the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation's annual autumn event.
Date: October 28 to 31, 2020
Locale: Old School House Park (5240 N. Marlborough)
Details: Decorate Whitefish Bay with carved pumpkins displayed at Old Schoolhouse Park for a festive, safe, socially distant version of this fall tradition!
Drive up to our convenient pumpkin pick-up and drop-off location on North Idlewild Avenue, open 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm daily. Take your pumpkin home to carve and bring it back to our drop-off, and we will display your creation for all to see!
All pumpkins will be lit 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm nightly, and we welcome you to walk through the park and enjoy the pumpkins and decorations. We encourage you to practice good habits by wearing a mask and keeping your distance from others.
Please note: To provide a safe event for all, this year there will be no carving of pumpkins on-site, no music and no food and beverage. (We know! We’re bummed, too!) Thanks for helping us safely celebrate, Whitefish Bay!

Old Fixtures For Sale:
The Village has 12 old street light fixtures for sale. Each unit is $125. There is a purchase limit of 2 fixtures per person. These are sold in as-is condition with no internal components or bulbs.

Sweet Water Citizen Survey:
Sweet Water (South Eastern Wisconsin Watersheds Trust, Inc.) is looking to identify topics in pollution prevention that are most relevant to residents of Whitefish Bay. Click here to take the survey.
The purpose of this survey is to help Sweet Water ( www.swwtwater.org) gauge the collective feelings and opinions about water quality in Southeastern Wisconsin. This information will be used to design better programs that will help keep your community's rivers and lakes clean!

Whitefish Bay Trick or Treat Status Update (10/5/20):
Trick or Treat is planned to take place in the Village on Saturday, October 31 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Village is working with the North Shore Health Department to assure trick-or-treating is done in a safe manner considering the COVID-19 requirements and new ordinances adopted by the Village.
Even though it will be daylight, anyone wishing to trick or treat is asked to respect that if a porch light is on, the home is participating. If a light is not on, the home is not participating.
Can I have a block party on Halloween/Treat-or-Treat? No, the Village does not permit block parties on Halloween/Treat-or-Treat.

November 3, 2020 Election FAQ:
The Village has received over 6,500 absentee ballot requests out of approximately 10,000 registered voters.
All requested absentee ballots for the November 3, 2020 election have been mailed to residents. Absentee ballots requested in the last week will take several days to arrive by mail. We appreciate your patience!

Community Service Officer Job Opening:
Background: The Community Service Officer (CSO) is a uniformed, non-sworn position that has authority to enforce certain municipal ordinances relating to animals, parking, and code enforcement. CSO’s assist with traffic control and perform other functions to assist department personnel. CSO’s are also trained as clerks and will fill that position when necessary. Hourly wage is $14.39.
Qualifications: U.S. Citizen, 18 years of age or older, valid driver’s license with a good driving record, good verbal and written communication skills, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Click here to apply or for more job information.

Rx Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 24:
The next National Take Back Day will be October 24, 2020. This event is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at locations in communities throughout the country. The event will be at Whitefish Bay Village Hall from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on October 24, 2020.
The October 2019 Take Back Day brought in 882,919 pounds (almost 442 tons) of unused or expired prescription medication and vape devices. This brings the total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 to nearly 12.7 million pounds. Read more about the most recent Take Back Day totals here. |

NSHD Highlights 9/29/20: Child Passenger Safety - Buckle Up Every Age, Every Seat, Every Trip
Motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children in the United States, but many of these deaths can be prevented. Children should always be buckled into age- and size-appropriate car seats, booster seats and seat belts to reduce the risk of motor vehicle injuries.
Facts on buckling up:
- Car seat use reduces the risk for injury in a crash by 71-82% for children, when compared with seat belt use alone (Source).
- Booster seat use reduces the risk for serious injury by 45% for children aged 4-8, when compared with seat belt use alone (Source).
- For older children and adults, seat belt use reduces the risk for death and serious injury by approximately half (Source).
Depending on your child’s age and size, the type of car seat or booster seat they need will vary. Rear-facing seats should be used for infants and toddlers until they are ready to transition to forward-facing seats. School-aged children should use a booster seat and all children under 13 years old should sit in the back seat of vehicles. When children are old enough and large enough to not need a car or booster seat, seat belts should always be used. More information on finding the proper car seat: healthychildren.org

Bay Gives Back Food Drive: Whitefish Bay High School’s Bay Gives Back organization will be holding a City-Wide Food Drive for the Riverwest Food Pantry from Saturday, October 10 through Saturday, October 24.
The food drive will be held virtually. Those interested in supporting the food drive can purchase items online where they will be directly sent to the Riverwest Food Pantry for distribution. Learn more.
Upcoming School Board Meeting: Wednesday, October 14 – Regular Business Meeting. Meeting agendas, minutes and more information can be found online.
Health Aide Job Opening: Applications are being accepted for the Health Aide position at Whitefish Bay High School. Candidates must have the following qualifications:

- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Clerical, computer, and organizational skills

"55 and Better" Program at the Whitefish Bay Recreation Department:
I am pleased to announce the return of the senior luncheons at the Whitefish Bay Recreation. Socialization, a healthy meal and a friendly support system is so very important to well being!
Tuesday, October 13, 2020 Luncheon: Doors open at 11:30 am with lunch at 12:00 pm.
Menu: Swedish meatballs with parsley noodles, vegetable medley, fresh salad, apple pie, milk, and coffee. Cost $9.00. Registration and payment will be collected through October 7, 2020. This program is held in the large gym with plenty of consideration for social distancing and proper health safety protocols.
