This Sunday's Sermon and Song List

This Sunday's Sermon:

Genesis 33 tells the story of Jacob and Esau's reunion after twenty years of separation. The tension and fear gives way to the joy of forgiveness and reunion. Forgiveness and reconciliation are probably two of the most important themes of the whole biblical story. God's people should be marked by joyful forgiveness and a quickness to be reconciled to one another - especially if we're the ones that have been in the wrong. And yet, this life is often plagued with imperfect, difficult relationships and so we long for the day in which all things will be made right and new. So, this story not only reminds us of the joy of reconciliation - it casts our hearts and minds forward to the last great day when every tear will be wiped away.

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:

  • Forever
  • Day After Day
  • Build My Life
  • We Fall Down
  • Holy Holy Holy
  • All Glory Be To Christ

We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.

Family Sunday School This Sunday @ 9:00AM

Join us for Family Sunday School this Sunday at 9:00AM in our fellowship hall (Gathering Grounds). This is a time for every generation in the church to gather and learn together. This year, every Family Sunday School will be dedicated to the subject of prayer and we hope you'll join us as we kick off this new season of Sunday School!

STARTING THE 18TH: Men's Sunday School and Women's Sunday School Classes will begin on the book of Proverbs and the kids will begin a new curriculum called: "What's In the Bible?" You can learn more about that curriculum HERE.

Small Group Sign Up!

Interested in being part of a small group? We're gauging interest in small groups here at Discovery and are hopeful that many of you will be excited about the opportunity to benefit from regular fellowship and Bible study with other Christians in your midst. There will be multiple sign up sheets on Sunday and you can reach out to the office anytime if you'd like to sign up.

NEW Adult Bible Study Continues

Wednesday, September 14th @6:00PM

You are invited to join our new adult Bible study on Wednesday nights as we dive into the book of Daniel. Daniel is divided into two major sections. Section 1 is all stories - amazing stories of God vindicating his people in the midst of extreme hardship and persecution. The second section is a record of visions that Daniel saw concerning the future and the supremacy of Christ over all nations. We will cover section 1 over the next four weeks and then we'll move into the second section when Discovery Zone starts in September.

Wednesday Night Meals

Volunteers will provide the main course for Wednesday nights. You may turn in a receipt for the ingredients to the office to be reimbursed. The meal begins at 5:45PM. Volunteers will need to have the meal here ready to eat at that time or bring frozen to the office ahead of time with instructions for cooking.  The sign up sheet is located on the back table in the sanctuary.

Great Sermons

This week's recommendation in our "Great Sermons" series may seem a little odd at first. There's no video available for it and the audio is a little rough. Also, the preacher isn't particularly well known in our circles. But this might be just about the best sermon I've ever heard and I return to it at least once a year for my own edification. This is called "Ten Shekels and a Shirt" by Paris Reidhead. It's based on a very odd passage in Judges 18 (a lot of the passages in Judges are odd ones). He starts by spending a little time describing the story and you might not think there's anything exceptional about it. But then, he starts moving into the application and it starts to get really powerful. I highly recommend it! You can listen HERE.

Supper for Six

Looking for more fellowship opportunities or a chance to exercise your "hospitality muscles"? Sign up for "Supper for Six". This is just an opportunity to be a part of a small group that rotates sharing meals in each other's homes and getting to know one another better. If you're looking for more connections with your church family (and some good food!), you should try it out. Reach out to the office to sign up or look for the sign up sheet at the back of the sanctuary and Frank or Brenda Vermiere will contact you and get you looped in! Special thanks to Frank and Brenda for getting this ball rolling!

NEW Women' s Bible Study

The book of Judges cracks a window into depths of the human soul. Watch a nation struggle with its identity and relationship to its God. Heroes and heroines arise, who seem to have the potential to save Israel. But in the end, each proves to be a broken savior that cannot deliver.

In this series, pastor and author J.D. Greear wades into the book of Judges to shine a light onto the muddy waters of human rebellion. The stories and truths within are not just archaic tales with no relevance for us today. Rather, J.D. works through each chapter unpacking the truth of God’s grace in the midst of human wickedness, and shows how only the divine can redeem the fallen.

We will meet 9:00 AM Thursday mornings in the women's ministry area beginning August 18. Questions or if you need childcare please contact the office or Mary Holdahl (605) 661-1966.

Starting Tuesday, September 6th the study of Judges will be held from 5:30-7:00PM. This study will be facilitated by Roxie Pier each week and childcare will bot be provided.
