A Word From Nelson
Spring has officially arrived, and with it, the age-old tradition of spring cleaning. It's also time to begin considering what home renovations and enhancement projects you'd like to tackle. If you're considering some new flooring options, be sure to keep luxury vinyl plank in mind.

Luxury vinyl plank is among the fastest-growing segments in the flooring industry. The material is comfortable to walk on, easy to clean, stain resistant, and some are waterproof. Just about any material can be "designed" onto your floor. Do you want that tumbled marble or exotic hardwood look, but don't have the budget for it? Luxury vinyl plank might be just the floor you're looking for.

Flooring for Open-Floor Plans

Over the past several years, open floor plans have been become the go-to layout for architects and interior designers.

At the core of the concept is a "great room" that combines the kitchen, dining room, and living room into one shared space.

The foundation of any great room is a unified flooring material throughout.  Notice how the flooring in the picture gives the space a sense of continuity by removing high-contrast transitions. (Imagine if this kitchen had tile in it.) The unified flooring material guides your eyes around the structures, dividing the room.

Customer Question:
Can I use a steam cleaner on my laminate?

I was talking recently with a customer who asked if she could use a steam cleaner on her new laminate floor. It's a very good question and one I often get.

I have contacted our hardwood and laminate manufacturers about this topic and the answer is always ... NO! Steam can put too much moisture into wood and laminate, causing it to expand at the seams. Manufacturer's warranties don't cover damage caused by steam cleaners.

The best way to keep these surfaces clean is to use a product specifically designed for the individual floor product. We stock these cleaning products and will be happy to discuss them with you.
