To inspire all youth to reach their full potential as
caring, productive and responsible citizens.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Danville Area's Chatham Club kicked off the new year studying erosion and weather in preparation for upcoming VDOE Standards of Learning testing. Chatham members completed various hands-on experiments that focused on measurement, comparing volume, as well as, learning about the characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases. The culminating experiment was building sand volcanoes. Members discussed key facts about the reaction of carbon dioxide (gases), vinegar (liquids) and baking soda (solids).

Members were divided into teams to 'compete' to see which volcano would have the biggest explosion. Because of the teamwork displayed by the all girls team, their volcano exploded with the greatest height. For more information about the VA Science SOL and fun activities, visit doe.va.gov.
Foster Street Club middle school members recently volunteered at the Stratford Rehabilitation Center. Members delivered handmade cards for the individuals at the center, as well as, played games and shared fun songs with the residents.

"It's a great way to give back to our community and have our members develop a mindset of service," stated BGCDA staff member, Jesse Lovelace. "We want to make sure that our members understand that importance of volunteering."
Woodrow Wilson 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) members recently engaged in an activity that allowed them to express various emotions and feelings. Engaging in activities that support mental health and making smart choices in a safe environment helps members develop positive skills and outlets for expression.

The 21st CCLC program at Woodrow Wilson is supported through the Virginia Department of Education, Hughes Foundation and private investments.
