THANK YOU, DORIS

The Goddard School of Business & Economics owes a great debt of gratitude to Doris Geide-Stevenson, who has served successfully as our Interim Dean for the last 3 years. Doris has been our leader through some difficult times. She skillfully navigated complex personnel challenges and fostered a stronger sense of teamwork in the college, successfully guided us through the complicated re-accreditation process with the AACSB, and directed the budgetary restructuring and cuts required with Senate Bill 265 without losing any positions. Dr. Geide-Stevenson has worked tirelessly to improve conditions for our college in general, and for the students, faculty and staff. We are incredibly grateful for her time, efforts, and talents on our behalf.

Doris' time as our Interim Dean will conclude June 30th, at which time she will return to the Economics department as a full professor. In July, we will welcome our new Dean, Jeremy Oller, coming to us from the University of Central Oklahoma. More about Jeremy to come, but click below to learn more about the transition.

SPRING 2025 GRADUATING CLASS

We bid farewell to over 200 truly outstanding students at our April (Spring 2025) graduation. Olivia Brown, the Goddard Outstanding Graduate for all Baccalaureate programs, shared with us the following thought about this amazing journey, "If something is hard, that's good. You should embrace that - it means you're learning something." It's certainly true, Olivia. We wish these graduates nothing but the very best and will be watching their careers with interest.

Congratulations, class of 2025!

STUDENT AMBASSADOR TEAMS

The Goddard School boasted 3 incredible student ambassador teams during the 2024-25 school year. Each team represented their areas well, completing projects and participating in events both on and off campus. We are grateful for the hard work they did and their many accomplishments.

NEWS AND UPDATES

CARNEGIE MELLON COHORT

All seven Management Information Systems (MIS) students from the Goddard School who applied to CMU’s Heinz College were accepted into their graduate programs — an incredible achievement. These students continue a long line of impressive students attending CMU from Weber State, the result of a relationship formed in 2018.

SENATE BILL 265 UPDATE

Weber State has been responding to SB 265 (the Higher Education Strategic Reinvestment bill) by reallocating funding, consolidating departments and programs, and making changes to academic offerings. The impact to the Goddard School of Business & Economics will be minimal. No positions will be lost, and two emphases in the Economics department will be consolidated.

AI IMPACT

We continue to respond to AI developments as they apply to higher education. Many of our professors are at the forefront in research and lead the discussion among their colleagues. Course materials are constantly being updated and adapted to deal with emerging technologies, so we can set the standard for meaningful educational experiences in an AI world. Our goal is always to give our graduates the tools and experiences they will need to be successful in the business world, which will of course include the latest AI technology.

TEAM AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR THE MBA PROGRAM

Alicia Ingersoll, of the Business Administration and Management department, is teaching the first-ever MBA class at Hill Air Force Base. Students come from different units on base to learn about organizational behavior. The class is taught in the commander's boardroom of the 75th Air Base Wing (Building 180). The program plans to offer another class on base this summer: Principles of Contract Management. Dan Brock, a contracting officer on base, is scheduled to teach this class.

The MBA program is celebrating it's 25 year anniversary this year! Commemorative coins were distributed to graduates at our Spring commencement. These coins were designed by one of our outstanding graduates, Alaa Aldeen (Dean) Abbas.

Shout out to Andrew Keinsley, of the Economics department, who was chosen by Goddard students as the 2024-2025 Career Champion because he consistently goes out of his way to prepare and open doors for students for their future careers! Countless students have benefitted from his guidance and networking and encouragement.

Congratulations to Randy Boyle, of the MIS Department, who received the 2024-25 Presidential Excellence in Teaching Award! In the words of his students, "Dr. Boyle's influence extends beyond the classroom. He has connected me with alums and provided me with invaluable career advice that has shaped my journey."

Shane Schvaneveldt, of the Supply Chain department, participated in the selection process of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the 2025-2026 award cycle. As a member of the National Screening Committee (NSC), he played a crucial role in assuring that the finest candidates will be represented in the program next year.
