Saturdays at 5pm | Sundays at 9am & 11am

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent β€” the 40 days of preparation for the Easter season when the faithful are called to deepen their spiritual lives through prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. Now is a great time to take a look at your spiritual life and grow in it. Not sure where to start? Here are a few ideas.

1. Meditate with the Stations of the Cross. Join us in the church every Friday at 7:00 p.m. Stations will be led by various parish ministries like Care for Creation and the Knights of Columbus. On Friday, March 14, we will have a special presentation of Living Stations of the Cross performed by students of Elyria Catholic High School.

2. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confessions are heard Saturdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Other opportunities include the Diocesan Evening of Confession on Wednesday, March 19, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and a joint Lenten Penance Service at St. Bernadette Church on Monday, April 7, at 7 p.m.

3. As a part of your Lenten almsgiving, make a point to learn more about our St. Vincent de Paul Society and their work to change the lives of the less fortunate. Then help them fill the shelves at St. Ignatius of Antioch food pantry β€” a list of needed items can be found in the Atrium and Main Gathering Space. This weekend, they are collecting cereal and oatmeal.

4. Fasting is one of the three traditional Lenten disciplines.Catholics are expected to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, which means to eat light meals during the day, not exceeding one full meal. This applies to the faithful ages 18-59.

There are also different ways to include a fast this Lent. Consider stopping the endless scroll on social media or giving up your afternoon coffee run.
