Great Ways To Celebrate the Season!

Hello Theatre Lovers!

Thank you to everyone who attended the John McDermott Family Christmas concert on December 2nd. Over 400 people were in attendance and heard John and his incredible band entertain us in such an intimate location. Such a special event! Thank you for your support…..all 400 of you!

At this time of year, things can begin to feel a little crazy with all the Christmas hustle & bustle! At Theatre Collingwood we have a solution for that. Come join us this Thursday, December 14th. at 7:30 pm. for our Annual Staged Reading of A Christmas Carol.

We have a wonderful cast of readers this year including:

Heather Craig

Ginny Gilbert

Tara Kivlichan

John Knox

Steve Magill

Brian McCrindle

Kate Roxborough

Penny Skelton

Chelsea Weston

Marty Wilkinson

With Scott Hurst as The Narrator & Dean Hollin as Scrooge

We are thrilled to have Greg Gibson accompanying us on the piano and Deb Fitzsimmons gracing us with her beautiful voice and carols! The cast has been rehearsing and doing a wonderful job. Special thanks to Catsue McBroom for our costumes and to Ginny Gilbert for our props. And this year Ginny is also playing Tiny Tim! The script we use is from the CBC. Think of it as an opportunity to watch a live radio show. Plus we have Anne Raciunas as our Foley artist, creating all the sound effects!

We are delighted to present our annual reading with a cast that includes some of our favourite people from the community as well as local and professional actors. Come bring the family and support these great performers and Theatre Collingwood. Our holiday tradition is presented at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Collingwood and is always a wonderful event to get you in the spirit of the season.

The presentation will include a 20-minute intermission, and in total should run 2 hours.

At this time of year, we will also be taking donations for the Actors Fund of Canada. This not-for-profit organization helps people who are in the entertainment industry who are experiencing hardships.

Looking for something to do in January, or for a great Christmas gift for that hard to buy for person? Look no further. We have Tom Allen from CBC radio coming back to us in January with his “chamber musical” J. S. Bach’s Long Walk in The Snow on January 20th, at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church. Tom has written a beautiful story about young Johann Sebastian Bach – who hadn’t really started composing yet and was actively screwing up terribly in his first job! After he got in a street fight and almost killed one of the students, he asked permission for time away. They gave him 4 weeks, but he was gone 4 months. He walked 400 km north to a glittering port city where a wise old teacher lived, and while he was there, over Christmas, it’s entirely possible he fell in love. When he came back, he very quickly became the genius artist we still revere!

This performance will feature Tom Allen, Lori Gemmell on the harp, with stunning vocalist and improviser Suba Sankaran, multi-instrumentalist and singer Joe Phillips and virtuoso violinist Erika Raum!
