Dear Lakeside Community,
The weeks are getting shorter, or so it seems, and our year with your children about over. We are counting down the days to maximize the time we still have with them! We are busy preparing for next year and I've been asked by many - when will teacher assignments be made for next year. The information will be shared some time this summer, likely in early August.
Hope to see you this Wednesday night, May 25th, for
Open House - 6 to 7 pm. We will start in the Community Center at 6 pm for a quick overview.
Community members are welcome to join us!
Kudos Lakeside! We were just awarded the
"2015 California Honor Roll"
recognition, presented by the
Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE).
The 2015 Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle, and high schools that demonstrate consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. This year, the California Honor Roll recognized
higher performing, higher poverty schools that are distinguished for their academic achievement and for closing achievement gaps. We value yet another external review that reinforces the outstanding work by our teachers and community to ensure our students are academically successful. LCAP Survey (Local Control Accountability Plan)
resulted in input from 35% of our families this year. It is difficult to determine how that compares to last year as last year every parent received input, so we had some duplication of responses from families. The results are
if you'd like to see them. We have some very promising results as well as other areas of work to do for next year.
Areas of strength:
92% of respondents agree the teacher is accessible when they have tried to communicate about their child's success
91% of respondents feel we provide a safe and welcome environment for learning
91% of respondents feel the school is doing an excellent/good job in preparing students for expectations of their grades
87% of respondents agree the district ensures sufficient student access to technology and instructional materials
87% of respondents agree teachers make time to discuss progress
83% of respondents agree the school communicates effectively about a child's academic progress
83% agree classrooms are well-maintained
78% of respondents agree everyone's racial and ethnic heritage is respected
78% of respondents agree the school values parents as important partners
Areas for growth:
52% of respondents feel the school is implementing the Common Core State Standards
48% of respondents feel the school is safe, clean and in good condition (facilities-wise)
30% of respondents feel they have knowledge of the Common Core
23% of respondents feel they understand the new CAASPP/SBAC assessments
As you can see, there are many positives for us to build upon. While the survey was open for 11 days this year, we'll do a few more reminders for next year. We'll also take some of the areas for growth and build them into the LCAP for this year. That draft should be out some time in the next two weeks.
A group called the
Young Tritons Running Club
is looking for any dads who might want to lead a running program for boys. If you are interested in setting up a charter group, click

A Community Open House will be held at Bear Creek Stables on
Saturday, June 4
, from 10am until 1pm. Come meet our barn yard friends, tour the stables, ride a pony. Refreshments will be available.
it is a safety issue to have students dropped off before 8 am. Our staff is on duty beginning at 8 am. Please do not leave your children unattended before 8 am. We want to ensure students are safe and supervised and we need your help to make sure that students are safe.
