For the  parents and families of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School

Dear Parents,

I hope you are enjoying these last few weeks of summer and getting ready for the new school year! We are very excited to welcome many returning and new families to BOTH of our campuses in just a few short weeks.

We are in the process of finishing preparations at the St. Barbara Campus building for the new year, and I would like to invite you to come and take a sneak peek on Tuesday, August 20 at our   Welcome to St. Barbara Campus Night  from 6-7pm. There will be tours and also the opportunity to meet the St. Barbara Campus faculty and staff. All are welcome!

At our St. Therese Campus, we have also made some building improvements, including renovating the basement/lunchroom. This much-used space is now beautiful and ready for our students to return.

We are very grateful to all of our school community members, and particularly our generous donors, who helped fund the exciting changes at both campuses this summer. Their support and commitment to our school community is a tremendous gift from God.

All of our new and returning faculty and staff members are very busy getting their rooms ready and planning for our academic year.  Faculty from both campuses will be on-site for our very full professional development days starting on August 15th. Once all faculty contracts have been finalized, I will be sharing with you the roster of teachers at both campuses; I expect to be able to share that information shortly. All of us will be ready for the opening day of school on Tuesday, August 27.

We are excited to share that we will be holding an all-school Mass to celebrate the start of the new school year together! Please join us for our Back to School Mass on Tuesday, September 3 at 1pm at the St. Barbara Worship site. As always, all are welcome to join us to celebrate the beginning of our new school year!

As you can imagine, there is a lot of information in this newsletter. I urge you to review this with your family a couple of times so that you may catch all of the  details. Note that this information is also provided on our school website.

Best,
Ms. Lisa Deborah Oi
Principal

Early Childhood Uniforms
Students in PreKindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten will be required to follow the Early Childhood Dress Code. Given how young children can easily soil their clothing, parents are strongly encouraged to purchase at least three sets. Every item of clothing should be labeled with your child's name.

Uniform gym clothes must be worn on gym days but can be worn during the week as well. The gym uniform is a St. Therese T-shirt, St. Therese shorts or sweat pants, and the St. Therese sweatshirt.   Refer to the Early Childhood Dress Code for more details

Uniforms for Students in Grades 1st through 8th
St. Therese School requires that all students in Grades 1 - 8 be in school uniform at all times (apart from designated Dress-Down Days). Please refer to the detailed  2019-2020 School Dress Code  for the full detailed description of the uniform code.

Our uniform provider is Martinelli's, located at 3517 95th St, Evergreen Park, IL 60805. They may be reached at www.shopmartinellis.com or at (708) 425-6287 with any questions.

A note about uniforms in the warmer months of school:
The blazers/sweaters need NOT to be worn if temperatures are above 75 degrees.  If the classroom temperature rises throughout the day, students are allowed to remove their blazers. However, we ask that students bring their blazers on their regular dress code day. Temperatures do drop quickly in early fall, so please be sure to purchase your uniform by the beginning of the school year.

School Uniform Exchange

Returning parents are encouraged to drop off clean, gently used uniforms to either campus office to be included in the  Uniform Exchange  at the St. Therese Campus.

The Uniform Exchange will be available at the Back to School Open House on Tuesday, August 20th at the St. Barbara Campus. All items are free for all parents at both campuses.
It's School Supplies Time!

We know many parents like to begin gathering items for the  School Supply List over the summer months, so it is included here

Please note that we ask our boy students to bring in the items identified during the first 2 weeks of the new school year, and the girl students to bring in the items when school resumes after Christmas Break in January. This helps with storage of items in the classrooms.

The link to the school supplies lists can also be found on our website under the " Families" tab.

Spirit Wear Days and Dress Down Days

Throughout the school year, the school will have scheduled Dress Down Days and Spirit Wear Days. Guidelines for dress during these days will be shared with the families at the beginning of the new school year. Once set, these dates will be posted on the School Website and reminders will also be posted around the school building at both campuses.

The school will be selling Spirit Wear at the Back to School Open House on August 20th at the St. Barbara Campus, as well as during both Parent Nights.

Each new student at St. Therese is provided with one " Blue Ribbon" t-shirt at no cost to the family. These shirts are used when students are off-campus for field trips and other events. These t-shirts may also be worn for Spirit Wear and Dress Down days.

Additional Blue Ribbon t-shirts, including sizes for parents/adults, may be purchased for $10, also at the August 20th event and Parent Nights.

Spirit Wear on Sale

The school also has a selection of spirit wear items for sale, including Athletics t-shirts. Students enjoy wearing these on Spirit Wear Days, as well as when attending sporting events to show their school spirit!
Please look for the sale on August 20th and during both Parent Nights.  Both T-Shirts are $10 each
