July 19 Director's Corner
We continue to make progress on the Emerald Necklace, our vision of approximately 13 miles of greenways encircling Cornelius. Here are some updates:

Antiquity Greenway : This 0.6-mile trail will connect downtown Cornelius to the existing Rocky River Greenway in Davidson, along the north side of the Antiquity neighborhood, including a connection on South Street near the covered bridge. Projected opening: August 2019! (For your safety, please stay away from this site while it is still under construction.)

Plum Creek Greenway: This 0.5-mile section will start at the existing multi-use path by Hough High School at Bailey Road and connect to the existing Davidson Greenway and should be under construction by fall of 2019.

McDowell Creek Greenway (MCG Phase II): The 1.6-mile extension of the existing MCG, between Birkdale and Westmoreland Road, will continue from Westmoreland Road up to Catawba Avenue near Magnolia Plaza. This project is slated to begin construction by spring of 2020.

Upon completion of these three projects, 75% of the Emerald Necklace will be in service. The remaining three segments are hoped to be completed by 2027.
