From the Campaign Chair
The Lodge We Love

Dear Friends in Christ,

Camp Luther has been ministering to children and families for over 70 years. Many of the original buildings still serve camp and have been remodeled. The Lodge is one of those buildings. Over these many years, the Lodge has been remodeled and added on to, has hosted hundreds of group retreats, volunteers, and has served as our summer staff lodging and dining hall.

I, personally, hold many special memories from time spent in that special building.  As a camper, I remember eating in the dining hall and the fun special dinners. As a Junior Counselor, I remember picking up our cleaning baskets in the basement of the Lodge. As a counselor, I remember hanging out in the staff lounge, enjoying any down time with other staff. I remember one summer living in the Lodge and seeing if we could fit the whole summer staff in L2.  I could go on and on.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the most sentimental people, especially when it comes to camp, but the Lodge is just a building. The memories created there will remain in the hearts of all us who have them. The memories were created because of the people and events, not because of some old building. And it is one old building.

As we move ahead with the Filled with the Spirit Campaign, our biggest facility need is a larger dining space. The Lodge needs to be replaced and a beautiful new Community Center will be built. But the memories we have in our hearts will not be replaced, and this new facility will provide a place to create more of those memories.

The Holy Spirit doesn't "fill" in the hearts of those who cross that little bridge because of the buildings at Camp Luther. People's lives are touched because of the relationships built at this special place.  That will never change - "...Surely the Lord is in this place..." Genesis 28:16

Champions Retreat

THANK YOU Camp Luther Champions! On Oct. 27-28, Camp Luther hosted 21 Camp Luther Champions for our Filled with the Spirit Campaign. The weekend was filled with not only training, but sharing how the Core Values of camp have impacted them, their children and their churches beyond the boundary of the bridge at camp. Those Core Values are 1) Christ Centered Community; 2) Relationships; 3) Servant Leadership; and 4) Meaningful Service.

One of the stories showing how Camp's Core Values truly are affecting the people who come here was about a couple's children  who were both working in non-church  work profe ssions. Both were a bit shy when it came to meeting new people and being outside of their familiar life
at home.  Coming to camp as campers and serving as junior counselors and counselors gave both of these children a confidence where they are trying new things, going into different states and
countries where they are able to be leaders, doing meaningful service and growing relationships. This all happened because of their experiences at camp.

While at camp, all of these Champions were able to hear how they can involve their own congregations in the campaign for the future of Camp Luther. A blessing was said at the end of the event with everyone excited to move forward in talking with their pastors about what their church can do. THANK YOU to this very special group of people!

Prayer Requests
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Give thanks for:
Camp Luther and how the Holy Spirit continues to IMPACT lives in this place!

The beauty of this place that thousands of people are able to enjoy in God's creation.

The many volunteers that have stepped forward to support and help with the campaign and many areas of ministry at camp.

Pray for:
Opening the hearts of His people as the campaign moves forward in scheduling visits with Friends of Camp.

That there would be clear communication between all boards, staff, volunteers, our district, and people who love and support camp.

That the 2017 Summer Staff take the theme "Anchored" with them back to their university or place of work and use it as a source of courage and strength to be witnesses of Christ.

That the enemy, the devil, would gain no foot hold at camp, within the staff, or the campaign leadership.

To always keep focused on the Lord's mission in this place of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
