Core Value #4
Dear Friends in Christ,
The core values of Camp Luther were not created until about 3 years ago. I love that they were created and was blessed to be a part of that process. The core values are displayed in the courtyard for families to see every week when they pick up or drop off their children. Even though they weren't formally written or displayed back when I worked here, they were still a part of the ministry at Camp Luther.
The fourth core value speaks of creating experiences to explore and discover unique interests and talents that transform lives for meaningful service to God. I know that I learned this in all my experiences at camp. I won't bore you with a long list of experiences, but I truly enjoy serving and have a hard time saying "no" when asked to be a part of something, especially when it comes to service opportunities at church.
I have seen this core value lived out in my own kid's lives. They have done service
projects through the IMPACT program and my daughter has been a Junior Counselor for 2 summers. She has volunteered often at church for many different occasions and events. This also carries into our community as she serves for National Honor Society. The last time she served at a local food pantry, she came home and told us we needed to go do that as a family.
Finally, I like to joke around camp that I was the first ever Program Coordinator, when there was only 1! (Now there are 10+ PC's) Given that opportunity in 1992 helped me to grow into the leader I am today. I held that position for 3 summers and truly grew as a leader. I certainly wouldn't be writing this article as the chair of a campaign without developing the leadership skills I learned in my young adult life.
We are so blessed to have this ministry in our district. Thank you for being a part of this campaign to continue to provide the incredible experiences for all who cross over that bridge.
