Cost of Home National Campaign
Habitat for Humanity International recently launched their first national advocacy campaign to mobilize local Habitat organizations, partners, volunteers and community members across the country to find solutions and help create policies that will allow 10 million individuals to have access to affordable homes.
Over the next five years, the campaign will improve home affordability by promoting policy and systems change in four key areas: supply and preservation of affordable homes, access to credit, land use, and communities of opportunity. Through the campaign, Habitat will look to engage housing advocates, Habitat homeowners, volunteers and supporters - as well as federal, state and local policymakers - to advance access to safe, decent and affordable homes.
Together, we can make the cost of home something we all can afford.
" At Habitat for Humanity, we know that a family should never have to spend more than 30 percent of their income on a home. But consider that today over 19 million U.S. households pay half or more of their income on a place to live. That is unacceptable.
That means that 1 in 6 families are denied the personal and economic stability that safe, decent and affordable housing provides. Instead, 1 in 6 families are forced to make impossible choices.
Safe homes. Nutritious food on the table. Health care. Access to good schools. Reliable transportation. Which would you choose?" - HFHI website

Home Repair, Aldie
The Robinson family's critical home repair is in full swing. A huge shout out to C2 Operations who will be donating and installing siding, gutters and soffits along with front and rear doors this week. Volunteers recently braved the humidity to complete the siding and roofing of a shed in the backyard to store lawn care equipment and more. HITT Contracting volunteers installed new windows and secured the framing around them.

Home Repair, Sterling
We are half way through this home repair project. An elderly couple is pleased to have cool air with their new HVAC system that was installed last week. Early next week we will repair plumbing in the bathroom and repair a shed that has been identified as a violation of county regulations. This project is a great example of helping Loudoun Residents stay in their own home when faced with safety, functionality, and issues related to community code and regulations.
