AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR 2020 NPD AWARDS: In recognition of our new workplace realities, the nominations deadline for the 2020 NPD awards has been extended to April 15, 2020. We hope this extra time helps in gathering the information you need to complete the new online nominations forms. Now is the time to recognize outstanding members of our philanthropic community!
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Shawn Wills
Dear Friends,

Things have definitely changed since we last met in February! Who would have thought that we’d all be sequestered in our homes due to a global pandemic? Although it feels more like a sci-fi movie, COVID-19 has altered our ability to meet monthly, as well as how we do our jobs as fundraisers.

As you know, we have rescheduled our March and April lunch programs for June and July, respectively. And that is under the assumption that we will have some degree of normalcy by then.

Whether we meet again soon or sometime in the future, I want to encourage you to stay focused on the things that matter most to you — health, family, faith or otherwise. These are challenging times for everyone, but we fundraisers are a resilient bunch! We have learned, time and time again, to roll with the punches any time the U.S. economy has fluctuated. We bounced back after 9/11 and the 2008 recession; we will get through this, too.

I also implore you to use this time to get re-energized about your mission. Besides meeting with donors, hosting fundraisers or attending luncheons or galas in person, there are other things we can do until this crisis ends. Fundraising professional Adam Ruble offers valuable tips in his blog post, 10 Things Fundraisers Can Do From Home During the COVID-19 Pandemic .

I do have some great news to share: The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Dallas Chapter has once again been named a 2020 Ten Star Chapter!

Every year, AFP, the largest association of professional fundraisers in the world, honors chapters for achieving goals that align with key objectives in its long-range strategic plan. Chapters receive the Ten Star designation for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Only one-third of all AFP chapters earn the Ten Star designation, so the Greater Dallas Chapter is one of a select group.

Congratulations to our members, sponsors and donors for all you did to make this outstanding honor for our chapter possible!

Very best regards,

Shawn Wills, CFRE
President, Greater Dallas AFP
