President's Message

Dear AFP Greater Dallas Members & Friends,

As we head into the fall season, it's time to welcome the new school year and the latter half of 2025 with fresh energy and enthusiasm. We hope that each of you had a chance to relax, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime over the summer. Whether it was time spent with family, taking a break from the daily grind, or pursuing personal passions, the summer months offer the perfect opportunity to reset and refocus.

As we transition back to the everyday hustle and bustle or, in many cases, the office, let's carry that sense of renewal into our work. Just like students returning to school with a fresh set of goals and learning objectives, we too can take this time to set new intentions for our professional growth and development. It’s a season to embrace challenges, build new skills, and approach tasks with renewed vigor.

This is also a wonderful time to reflect on the work we’ve done over the seven months and set our sights on the next steps in our fundraising efforts. The fall season is often a busy one, filled with opportunities to engage with supporters, launch campaigns, and connect with new partners. Let’s approach this busy time with the mindset of a student ready to learn, grow, and make an impact.

We look forward to exciting AFP programs, luncheons, Emerging Leaders, and a culmination at National Philanthropy Day.

Warmly,

Manuel Mesa

2025 President, Greater Dallas AFP

August Luncheon Program

Funders' Forum

Join Alicia Peoples, JD, as she moderates a panel discussion of funders sharing insights into their funding cause areas, typical funding awards and funding schedules. What motivates funders to give? How can we work with funders in these changing times? Attendees will gain an insider's perspective on corporate funding priorities when making tough decisions about awarding program dollars.

Your takeaways will be an increased understanding of:

  • Funding priorities
  • Foundation governance
  • Best practices in approaching funders & relationship development

ABOUT OUR MODERATOR: Alicia A. Peoples, JD, is past president of the Greater Dallas Chapter AFP. She is a graduate of Trinity University with a B.A. in political science and a law degree from Wake Forest University. Alicia spent college internships and the first two years out of law school in public interest and labor law. Returning to Texas after law school, Alicia spent five years in the volunteer roles of vice president and president of an East Texas political action committee, where she gained hands-on experience in direct mail marketing, mass communication, public relations, event planning, and fundraising. She's spent another 15 years as a nonprofit executive where she continues to hone these skills.
