As we enter into the holiday season, I always get a little nostalgic as I remember performances of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. I have probably seen it over 100 times. You might not realize that this theme of giving to others runs through many of Dickens’ novels. In another of his works, he writes:
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
I know as development professionals, we can get caught up in percentages of return on our direct mail pieces or segmentation of our year-end appeals, or online giving strategies, and on and on.
Please try to remember how much your work is lightening the burdens of so many. When you are trying to make that deadline or becoming frustrated when things don't run as smoothly as you would like, give yourself some space to enjoy the amazing work you and your organizations do to better the Greater Dallas community.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve this year.
