Fundraising, Father’s Day, and the U.S. Open:

A Reflection on Precision and Purpose

Dear AFP Greater Dallas Members & Friends,

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and the heart of summer, I’ve been reflecting on the idea of freedom, not just in the patriotic sense, but in our day-to-day work as fundraisers.

Freedom, for us, often looks like possibility. The possibility to connect donors to a purpose. The possibility to help organizations grow. The possibility to lead change in our communities. But let’s be honest, it can also come with packed calendars, year-end prep creeping earlier, and a summer that often flies by too fast.

So, here’s your friendly nudge. Take a breath. Find a patch of shade. Put your out-of-office on, even just for a day. You deserve rest, not as a reward for burnout, but as a regular rhythm that sustains your creativity and compassion.

This summer, I encourage each of us to claim a little more freedom over our time. Rest is not a luxury, it’s part of the work. And when you do rest, know your AFP Greater Dallas Chapter is still here, ready with connections, resources, and encouragement whenever you need it.

Wishing you firework-filled nights, quiet mornings, and a well-deserved break.

Onward,

Manuel Mesa

2025 President, Greater Dallas AFP

Remembering Mary Freeman

The too-brief life of our friend and Greater Dallas Chapter AFP Past President Mary Freeman will be celebrated on Monday, July 7 at 1 PM, at the First Unitarian Church, 4015 Normandy Ave., Dallas, TX 75205.

It will be an uplifting tribute, rather than a funeral, and the family asks that you dress in festive, bright attire, which was characteristic of her lively personality.

CFRE Refresher Course

The Fort Worth Metro Chapter AFP is hosing a one-day CFRE Refresher Course on Tuesday, July 15, 8 AM to 5 PM, at ACH Family Child & Family Services. Facilitator will be Jack Alotto, MA, CFRE.
