Hello, Friends,
One of the things I love about being a fundraiser is that we get a front-row seat to philanthropy in action.
Like many of you, I spend my days watching generosity turn into tangible impact. Sometimes that impact is years in the making. Sometimes it happens in response to a crisis. But either way, we're fortunate to witness what happens when people come together around a shared purpose.
This past week, I was reminded of that in two very different ways.
At Austin Street Center, we've been working alongside the City of Dallas, Communities Foundation of Texas, Mission Oak Cliff, and many other organizations to support residents displaced by the recent apartment fire in Oak Cliff. In the midst of a difficult and unexpected situation, people have come together to provide shelter, resources, and hope for families in need.
Just days later, I attended my church's Vision Weekend, where leaders celebrated new campuses and ministries made possible through years of generosity and faithful support.
One story was about responding to an immediate crisis. The other was about pursuing a long-term vision. Yet both were examples of philanthropy at its best, people investing their resources, their compassion and their commitment to improve the lives of others.
Recently, many conversations in our profession have focused on fundraising in times of uncertainty and change. Those challenges are real. But moments like these remind me that philanthropy remains one of the most powerful forces for good in our communities. Whether we are helping organizations respond to urgent needs or pursue bold visions for the future, our work makes that impact possible.
That's why the theme of this year's Philanthropy in Action Conference resonates so deeply with me. It reflects the work happening every day across North Texas—and the important role each of us plays in it.
I hope you'll join us on June 23–24 as we gather to learn, connect, and celebrate the power of philanthropy in action.
Warm regards,
Evan White
