President's Message

Happy October, Chapter Members!

To me, the start of October means the start of fall, cooler weather, football, and the State Fair. At AFP, October is also the celebration of Ethics Awareness Month. While the topic of ethics may not bring the same thrill as the Red River Showdown (Hook 'Em Horns!) or a Fletcher's Corny Dog, ethics is truly at the heart of our profession. True story: I was once asked by a prospective donor if I was familiar with the Donor Bill of Rights. My response, "Yes," led to a $5,000 first time gift to the organization. First and foremost, donors want to know they can trust us to be good stewards of their gifts, and strong ethical fundraising practices are a great start to building that trust. I hope you'll join in the celebration at this month's luncheon, featuring a panel of experts discussing all things ethics on Wednesday, October 25 at Maggiano's NorthPark.

Sincerely,

Emily Kettlewell, CFRE
