President's Message

October is Ethics Awareness month for AFP.

For your social media accounts use #ModernizingEthicalFundraising.

One of the things I most appreciate and value about our association is the ethical standards and code of conduct we uphold. On January 1, 2025, the new code of ethics and member code of conduct will take effect. You can find them here.

And In light of Ethics Awareness Month, I wanted to mention the recent news story on the $5.7 million in donor funds reportedly misspent at Dallas’ Fair Park. This quote by the nonprofit gets to the heart of the problem. "While there is no question the funds were spent on and at Fair Park, they were not spent on the specific Fair Park projects restricted by our donors,’ Fair Park First said in a statement.” Click here to read the story.

I hope you can join us this month as Michelle Crim presents “Ethical Fundraising Red Flags” to learn more about navigating the competing interests and ethical dilemmas fundraising professionals encounter.

I pray each of you has a successful month – no matter the metric of success!

With gratitude,

Alicia Peoples, JD

President, Greater Dallas AFP

Participants will examine real-world scenarios that may signal unethical practices and learn how to follow ethical and best practices in their organizations' fundraising efforts.
