"Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability."
– Patrick Lencioni
This has been a huge year of learning for me. I started off my term of president with COVID and quickly learned that I cannot do everything on my own. Last week I faced another health challenge as I underwent emergency retina attachment surgery. This ended up sidelining me more than I thought. The doctor’s orders to stay flat on my stomach in bed with my head in a foam doughnut quickly doused any delusions of my invulnerability. Luckily for me, I have an amazing secret weapon, Christina Moore-Salinas.
I am so thankful for her standing by me in every single step of my journey this year. We have been able to build a trust that only comes from teamwork. Her wonderful spirit and tremendous drive excite me when I think about our AFP Greater Dallas Chapter and the incredible work that will be accomplished next year.
If you get a moment this week, take a second to call or email Christina and thank her for the dedication she has shown toward our chapter.
And as a personal note from me, "Thank you, Christina, for allowing me to be able to trust you so I can be vulnerable."

September 29, 2021 Program
In-Person and Virtual
"Kevin Runs a Marathon"
For any professional fundraiser, the notion of planning, launching, and completing a comprehensive fundraising campaign or even a targeted campaign can seem as daunting as setting a personal goal to run in a race. With nearly 30 years of frontline fundraising experience including four campaigns ranging from $351M to $1B, Kevin Foyle will share key components of the campaign process to help you raise more money, and leave you better prepared and more positively framed to appreciate the total experience.
Kevin J. Foyle, MBA, CFRE, is Chair of the AFP global board. He is vice president for development and public affairs and chief development officer for the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). During his eight-year tenure with UTHealth, he has increased their annual new gift commitments from an average of $25 million to an institutional record-breaking $123 million. He has served as the chair of the board of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, as a member of the board of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy Canada, and past president of the AFP Greater Houston Chapter. In 2017, Kevin received the Outstanding Fundraising Executive of the Year award at the National Philanthropy Day ceremonies in Houston.
WE ARE IN PERSON IN SEPTEMBER at a new venue, The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. Both members and non-members are welcome. A virtual option to attend and discounted rates for emerging professionals age 30 and under are available.

2021 CFRE Refresher Course is October 8
|
|
This one-day course enables participants to apply fundraising theory, skills and techniques within the six knowledge domains of the field, based on experience at the level of five-years and above. The course is not presented in a lecture format; rather, it is a combination of a high-level review, self-exploration of knowledge and peer exchange of best practices – all of which are based on using a case study approach.
If you are planning to take the CFRE exam, make plans to take this one-day course, brought to you by Greater Dallas AFP, Fort Worth Metro AFP, and AFP Global:
When: Friday, October 8, 2021, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Where: University of Dallas, 1845 E. Northgate Drive, Irving, TX 75062
