Dear Friends,
Diana Marquis

Our first meeting after our summer break was a smashing success! Milton Key delivered an outstanding program on the Giving USA report to a full house. There was even time for questions. This was a great kick-off for philanthropy in Dallas in the fall. And, fall is here. Morning temperatures are in the 70s, not the 90s, school zone signs are blinking, and every day I receive half a dozen emails from nonprofits reminding me to support them on September 17th, North Texas Giving Day.

North Texas Giving Day is now part of the annual fundraising landscape for many nonprofit organizations in North Texas, 2,100 according to the NTX Giving Day website. I noticed there are also 32 sponsors listed on the website. Hopefully, that means more funds to be distributed to the agencies. Remember, only donations made by credit or debit cards or donor advised funds will be accepted. Good luck to all!

AFP Board elections are coming up soon, and you have the chance to throw your hat in the ring. Are you ready to serve your AFP Chapter? Volunteering, board, and committee service are ways to hone your professional and leadership skills as well as a chance to meet other really cool people. You have joined AFP so we know you are serious about your profession. Now, join the professionals who make it happen for everyone else. Give me a call, send me an email or contact our AFP Dallas Chapter office to learn about becoming an AFP board member or a volunteer. Think about it, the Dallas AFP Chapter needs you, so step up, give back, make a difference.

The AFP Dallas 30th Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon will be November 13th at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Dallas. This event shines a spotlight on philanthropy in Dallas. Not only do we honor local philanthropists, volunteer fundraisers and a student, we also recognize foundations and corporations for their philanthropic work in our community and acknowledge one of our own as the Outstanding Fundraising Executive of the Year. This year we will present a Special Recognition award to one of our long-standing supporters, Scott Murray. It's not too early to make your reservation by purchasing a table or tickets.

Today is a good time to be an AFP member in Dallas. You have a dedicated board of directors working for you, and we all started out just like you. Join us on September 15th for a meeting co-hosted by the North Texas Partnership for Philanthropic Planning. See you there!

Sincerely,

Diana Marquis, CFRE
