I’ve learned a lot about that today, about the [space game] jersey. Everyone needs to carve out a point of differentiation in everything they do, especially from a brand perspective. UCF is doing that, and we welcome that approach and that aggressive nature and we think it’ll be very additive to what we’re thinking about at the Big 12.

  • When Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark was introduced before speaking with local reporters inside FBC Mortgage Stadium during his first trip to campusUCF athletics director Terry Mohajir handed him his own space-themed football jersey.
  • Monster Jam, the action-packed motorsport with world-class athletes locked in intense competitions of speed and skill, returns to Camping World Stadium on Oct. 29! Witness heated rivalries, high-flying stunts, and fierce head-to-head battles for the event championship. This is full-throttle family fun!
  • Orlando Magic fans will continue to see the Disney logo represented on players’ jerseys for years to come as the team and Walt Disney World announced the extension of their community sponsorship agreement. By extending this relationship, both the Magic and Walt Disney World are re-establishing their commitment to support the Central Florida community through ongoing charitable efforts.
  • The St. Croix Bassmaster Opens, presented by Mossy Oak Fishing, gives unknown anglers the chance to compete at the highest level. The Bass Anglers Sportsman’s Society (B.A.S.S.) recently announced nine locations for these popular tournaments. The top nine anglers in the Bassmaster Opens Elite Qualifiers earn an invitation to join the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2024. In fishing, this is like being called up to the majors.
  • A Winter Park-based firm started by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, along with longtime NBC Sports executive Mike McCarley, has raised nearly $15 million. Founded in August, TMRW Sports is creating a tech-focused golf league called TGL. The TGL will consist of six teams of PGA Tour golfers competing in 15 regular-season, Monday night matches. Players, including Woods and McIlroy, will compete on a virtual course. The first season will kick off in 2024.

  • UFC returns to Orlando for the first time in over four years on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Amway Center with an intriguing welterweight tilt that will see No. 7 ranked contender Stephen Thompson battle Kevin Holland. Heavyweight KO artists collide in the co-main event when No. 4 ranked contender Tai Tuivasa meets No. 5 Sergei Pavlovich.
  • The Harlem Globetrotters 2023 World Tour is coming to Addition Financial Arena on Saturday, April 22. Favorite Globetrotter stars are bringing out their amazing basketball skill, outrageous athleticism, and a non-stop LOL good time.   • Tech and innovation summit Synapse Orlando on Oct. 21 returned to The City Beautiful for the third time since 2019, drawing more than 2,000 registrants and 85 exhibitors showing off the latest in gaming, crypto, venture funding, entertainment tech, and more. Synapse Orlando has become one of Central Florida’s marquee innovation and tech events, hosting dozens of panels and talks on the latest trends in high-tech industries.
  • The Homeless Services Network of Central Florida just won a first-of-its-kind grant for metro Orlando: $8.4 million from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development's Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program. The Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program, launched by HUD five years ago, aims to use innovative ways to tackle the unique challenges of unhoused youth. Here in Central Florida, there are an estimated 250 people ages 18-24 homeless on any given night.
  • On Tuesday, a delegation from Orlando traveled to Mexico to officially enter a bid to host WorldPride 2026WorldPride is an international LGBTQ rights event that promotes visibility and awareness. The 12-person delegation will officially pitch Orlando at a bid presentation in Guadalajara on Saturday. Tatiana Quiroga explained that Orlando’s bid for 2026 is significant because it will be the 10-year remembrance of Pulse.
  • Friend and partner of GO Sports, Ralph Maccarone, has been nominated for the NASCAR Humanitarian of the Year award! Help him win a $100,000 donation to support his nonprofit Who We Play For, which works to eliminate preventable sudden cardiac death in the young through affordable heart screenings. Vote Here!
  • Orange County plans to offer another round of grants for small businesses negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Orange County Commission on Oct. 25 approved KPMG LLP as the vendor for more of its small business and gig worker grants through its federal American Rescue Plan Act. The funds may help businesses that did not get funds through programs like the federal Paycheck Protection Program or those that are in historically underserved communities.
  • Looking to support hunger relief efforts in Central Florida? Just dough it — with the newest additions to Second Harvest Food Bank’s “A Spoon Full of Hope” product line: three flavors of cookie dough you can bake up into crisp and chewy cookies or spoon right into raw.
  • Halloween is here and if you’re looking for some fall décor or a last-minute costume, Goodwill is a great place to start. The costume consultation services are free and Goodwill even has “look books” to help find pieces in the store that can create different costume ideas. Shoppers may be at Goodwill for different reasons, but they’ll all be giving back with 90% of sales benefiting their community.

  • United Arts of Central Florida has opened the application process for the annual Orange County Venue Subsidy grant program to help nonprofits rent spaces/venues that they may otherwise be unable to afford. The Orange County Venue Subsidy Grant for Arts and Culture is meant to help bridge the gap between professional venues and organizations which would otherwise be unable to afford the fees associated with renting them, with a maximum request amount of $60,000 or 50 percent of the total venue rental costs

  • Icon Park will present a Halloween light show on the Wheel amid other festivities this weekend. The 10-minute show will feature the attraction’s 64,000 lights choreographed to a spooky soundtrack. Showtimes are 8pm and 10pm Friday and Saturday, and 8pm on Sunday and Monday.
  • Join forces with the American Cancer Society for the movement to help save lives and fund the future of breast cancer research and programs. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Orlando walk will be held at Lake Eola Park on Oct. 29.
  • A celebrity chef lineup will make this year’s Taste of Space event extra star-studded. James Beard award-winner Rocco DiSpirito, Food Network star baker Duff Goldman and chef, restaurateur and “Chopped” star Marc Murphy will be cooking up out-of-this-world delights on Nov. 4, when the Taste of Space event returns to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

  • Dress up and trick or treat at Orlando Public Library and Orange County Regional History Center on Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Create creepy crafts and complete a scavenger hunt! Orlando recently hosted Synapse Orlando, an annual gathering for all of the doers, creators, innovators, thought leaders making Orlando one of the world’s fastest growing innovation communities. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, and GO Sports Board Member Tim Giuliani (Orlando Economic Partnership) all participated in a keynote presentation about Orlando's past, present and future.

President Alexander Cartwright also presented a keynote address to a full room at Synapse Orlando, hosted at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.  

GO Sports President & CEO Jason Siegel attended GrayRobinson's Community Leaders Forum, featuring Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings speaking about his transportation initiative on the Nov. 8 ballot. GO Sports executive committee member, Chris Carmody, moderating the discussion with Robert Stuart, Jr.

WISE Greater Orlando members gathered this week for a monthly member meet-up celebrating the chapter's first local recipient of the WISE Women of Inspiration Award, Jessica West. West is the VP of Facilities and Operations for Orlando City SC, Orlando Pride, and Exploria Stadium.

GO Sports President & CEO Jason Siegel attended a fundraiser for the Track Shack Youth Foundation, featuring guest speaker and Boston marathon legend, Dave McGillivray. Siegel is pictured here with Track Shack's Chris Hughes and McGillivray. 

Also in attendance at the Track Shack Youth Foundation fundraiser were GO Sports' executive committee member, Chris Carmody (GrayRobinson), along with Joan and Paul Kennedy.
