  • Iván Angulo intercepted a pass to score in the sixth minute to help second-seeded Orlando City advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Nashville on Tuesday night. Orlando earned its third consecutive 1-0 win over Nashville, including a victory on Oct. 30 with a 25-7 edge in shots.
  • Get hype for a weekend of fun, football, and musical performances! On November 18, the FAMU Rattlers and B-CU Wildcats will take the field and compete for ultimate bragging rights in Downtown Orlando. Florida Blue Florida Classic weekend is the ultimate reunion for college friends, families, and football enthusiasts.
  • UCF men’s basketball team opened the season with an emphatic 85-62 win over visiting FIU on Monday night at Addition Financial Arena. Guard Jaylin Sellers, one of six transfers on the roster, led the team with 23 points while returning starter Darius Johnson added 15 on 3 of 8 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.
  • Magic rookie Anthony Black didn’t feel nervous as he prepared to make his first career NBA start Saturday night against the Lakers at Amway Center. Black used his length and size to disrupt the Lakers, including guard and Montverde Academy alum D’Angelo Russell, throughout the night. On offense, the Magic rookie made the simple choices that led to points for Orlando.
  • Running back RJ Harvey capped off a career night by scoring on a 1-yard run with 2:45 left and the defense stopped a late two-point conversion to lift UCF to a 28-26 win over the Bearcats on Saturday. It was the Knights’ first Big 12 win.
  • The Orlando Solar Bears announced the return of the team’s annual Food Festival presented by Publix on Saturday, Dec. 9 prior to their 7 pm game against the Atlanta Gladiators at Amway Center.
  • The Football Writers Association of America, Florida Citrus Sports and Pop-Tarts are teaming up to present the Pop-Tarts ‘Crazy GoodPlay of the Week during the 2023-24 college football season. This new weekly award will celebrate the incredible athleticism, awe-inspiring strategy and jaw-dropping “did you see that?” moments from college football each week.
  • The National Women’s Soccer League announced the rules and procedures for the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft set to take place virtually on Friday, Dec. 15. 
  • Growing up in GermanyMagic forward Franz Wagner closely followed and was inspired by fellow European NBA players. Now the Orlando star realizes the full-circle moment as kids overseas watch him play basketball. Wagner and the rest of the Magic get the chance Thursday to help continue to grow the game internationally when Orlando faces the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Mexico City Game 2023 at Arena CDMX.
  • The athletics complex at Jones High School was just gifted a new state-of-the-art video board thanks to the efforts of McCoy Federal Credit Union, Florida Citrus Sports, and Florida Blue. The unveiling of the new 10×20 HD screen took place on Nov. 3, as part of a special ceremony to kick off Jones’ senior night celebration.

  • Orange County Public Schools started work on a new $64 million, 100,000 sq ft Orange Technical College East on 31 acres next to University High School. The campus will replace its Winter Park campus, which first opened in 1974.
  • Stetson University and the Orlando Economic Partnership are working to gather data that has not been collected from businesses before. The DeLand-based college's Center for Public Opinion Research and the public-private organization are partnering on a 12-month pilot to survey small businesses in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties.
  • The Orange County Public Art Review Board has issued a Call For Artists to submit artwork for the new Orange County Innovation Lab located in the new Multicultural Center in Pine Hills. The County would love to see submissions ranging from suspended three-dimensional art pieces, murals, augmented reality, kinetic sculptures and textile art, to digital and interactive art installations.
  • Disney Cruise Line has revealed a few more renderings and details for its new Bahamas called destination Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opening up next summer. The second of Disney’s private destinations in the Bahamas joining Castaway Cay is on the southern tip of Eleuthera with the first ships set to visit beginning in June.
  • Black Restaurant Week was established in 2016, in part to bring awareness to Black-owned culinary businesses, from makers and caterers to food trucks and restaurants around the country. From Nov. 10-19, it’s Florida’s turn. More than 130 businesses statewide have signed on, with several right here in the Orlando metro.

  • It’s a busy week for SpaceX on the Space Coast with another Cape Canaveral launch set for late Tuesday and Thursday night launch from neighboring Kennedy Space Center. First up is another Falcon 9 launch carrying another 23 of the company’s Starlink internet satellites from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’Space Launch Complex 40 targeting 11:01 p.m.
  • As Orlando Shakes continues its 35th anniversary season, the nonprofit theater has appointed Larry Mabrey as its new managing director. After serving as the managing director of Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Mabrey is moving from sunny California to the Sunshine State to oversee the organization’s business and theatrical offerings.
  • Central Florida’s contemporary art galleries are humming and buzzing with new exhibits that reflect on identity, femininity, grief and our natural world. At Mills Gallery, abstract painter Kristy Lee presents a new show titled “Vulnerable and Raw: The Feminine Foundation”.
  • A new location for homegrown restaurant chain 4 Rivers Smokehouse has been confirmed at The Villages, representing the 16th location for the popular local concept.
  • Idaho-based Crispy Cones has set its eyes on Orlando for its first Florida location. The specialty shop serves up Czech-style chimney cake ice cream cones which feature stumpy, croissant-like cones that are encrusted with cinnamon and sugar, lined with a spread like Nutella or peanut butter, and then filled with ice cream.
