Baylor University Earns Prestigious Research 1 Status

Baylor University has been named a Research 1 university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, joining the nation’s top-tier research institutions as a doctoral university with very high research activity and elevating Baylor as a preeminent Christian research university. The new $185 million home for Baylor’s championship men’s and women’s basketball teams will be located along the Brazos River on the west side of Interstate-35 adjacent to the University’s Clifton Robinson Tower, which will remain. The project is part of a projected $700 million in upcoming investments along the riverfront on University Parks Drive, from I-35 to Franklin Avenue. Read more here.

Capstone Mechanical, founded in Waco in 2005, announced an expansion of its headquarters to accommodate its growing sheet metal fabrication operation. Capstone will invest $5.15 million into a 30,000 square-food addition and create 68 new jobs. Read more here.

The Waco community celebrated the groundbreaking of Merrick Engineering, a family-owned manufacturer of closet hangers and storage solutions. The company will relocate its headquarters from Corona, CA to Waco, TX.

Once completed, this 400,000 square foot facility will total $33 million in capital investment.

The Waco economic index is the highest its ever been and has seen nine straight months of increase. The index grew to 142.2 in October 2021, up from 141.9 in September 2021 and 132.0 in October 2020. See below some of the driving inputs of growth for Greater Waco.
