BMHS Annual Art Exhibit

Congressional Art Competition & Exhibition

There were a number of Art Exhibits this spring that our students participated in.  All of their work will be displayed in a special separate area at the BMHS Annual Art Show that opens on Thursday, May 4.  The show will be open to the public on Thursday night from 4:30-6:30 pm, the same night as the opening of Mean Girls.

Montserrat College of Art and Congressman Seth Moulton hosted this year’s Sixth District Congressional High School Art Competition and Show. Over a hundred pieces were submitted from twenty-three schools across the district. An award ceremony recognizing the winners was held on  March 18th at the college in Beverly.

Students of Mr. Kelley and Ms. Fredericks participated in the exhibit.  Three of the students won awards.

The Massachusetts Art Education Association Recognitions Juried Art Exhibit

Piloted in 2018, The Massachusetts Amazing Emerging Artist Recognitions Exhibit is a juried show for grade 9-12 students of MAEA members. Student entries are submitted digitally and judged (blind process) by a panel of art educators.  Since it is juried, not everyone who submits work is accepted.

You can view the work online at https://massarted.com/events/maea-recognitions/

One of our students was honored with an award:

MAEA Art Educator Award

Herin Lee, Under the Covers

Youth Art Month (YAM), is celebrated nationally each March to bring awareness of the fact that  visual art education is a viable factor in the total education curriculum that develops citizens of a global society.

In Massachusetts during the month of March MAEA annually sponsors a Statewide preK-12 YAM Exhibit of student artworks submitted by art educators in public, private and independent schools from across the state. There are also regional and district wide YAM exhibits, as well as school-based exhibits and events throughout the year celebrating Art Education.

The following students of Ms. Fredericks’ participated in this exhibit:

Hailey Capodilupo

Eddie Gottmann-Hanrahan

Shaenny Gregorio

Luca Pesaturo Meireles

Ailey Merritt

Jordan Silva

You can view the virtual exhibit at https://massarted.com/youth-art-month/

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. You may or may not know that there are summer day camps located close to your school and we are looking to hire summer camp counselors and lifeguards. While we are Girl Scout camps, we are an equal opportunity employer and would love to hire some of your students. Please see the attached flyer and share with any interested Juniors and Seniors that you think might be interested in working with children.

Our summer camp season begins at the end of June and goes until August 12th. Here is the link to apply to work at camp. If you have any teens interested please have them reach out to [email protected]. I am happy to answer questions from you as well.

Of note, the nearest bus stop to your school is Marshall Middle School in Billerica for Camp Maude Eaton in Andover.

Schools Can Help Families Apply for Federal Help in Paying for Home Internet Access

Families who qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program can get $50 off their monthly broadband bills, thanks to a new, emergency federal program, the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Communications Commission emphasized in a May 12 meeting.

Low-income families living on tribal lands are eligible for an even steeper discount, $75 a month.

What’s more, students in post-secondary education who receive Pell Grants can also tap the funding. And eligible families can receive $100 in one-time help in paying for digital devices—such as laptops, tablets, and desktop computers—as long as the family contributes between $10 and $50 for the hardware.

BMHS App

The BMHS App provides quick access to timely news and upcoming events. It also allows the user to determine how often and what type of notifications they receive. The first page provides 9 options (not all options are available to all users). The "News" option provides a weekly overview of coming events at BMHS. Currently, this would include all school events including clubs and the Fine Arts performances. We are working on an athletic integration as well. The "Events" option provides access to the BMHS Calendar, Fine Arts Calendar, and soon to be included Athletics Calendar. Each of these calendars is dynamic and encompasses the entire school year. The "My ID" and "Hall Pass" are only available to students and staff. The "Directory" provides access to all Staff emails and, if applicable, phone number. The "Quicklinks" option provides quick access to Aspen, Athletics, Community Pass, Guidance, Clubs, Nutrition, and the BMHS Library sign up form. "Documents" provides access to Bus Routes, Lunch Menus, COVID information, and other documents. The "Map" option provides driving directions to MVC schools and locations for school functions, e.g. Blue Ocean Event Center (location of Senior Prom). The "Language" icon allows the user to convert the app into one of 42 different languages. The phone icon on the bottom of the home page will call our Absentee Line (978-528-8710).
