Get Involved – NYS Green Building Conference

The New York State Green Building Conference takes place March 2-3 at the Downtown Syracuse Mariott, bringing together the leaders in green building, education, and practice. In its 21st year, the conference is co-sponsored by ESF. There are several ways for students, faculty, and staff to get involved.


Student Posters Competition

March 2 I 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Students are encouraged to submit their poster title and category by Feb. 21 and receive free conference registration.

Nominate a Green Building Advocate of the Year

The Green Building Advocate of the Year is presented to an individual who:

 

  • Is actively involved in the field of green building, green construction, or sustainable building and their supporting disciplines either in a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Embodies the ideals of using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient in all stages of building.
  • Is prominent in promoting the need to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on humans and the natural environment.

Celebrate Black History Month

ESF continues to celebrate Black History Month with a slate of events for the campus community.

 

Environmental Justice is Racial Justice is Reproductive Justice

Thursday, Feb. 16 | 6-7:30 p.m. | Nancy Cantor Warehouse

Refreshments will be served.

Community educator and doula (birth worker) SeQuoia Kemp will trace the relationship between environmental racism, reproductive justice, and the production of maternal toxic zones.

 

Celebrating Blackness

Thursday, Feb. 23 | 6-8:30 p.m. | Gateway Center

Soul food will be served | entertainment and dancing by Kalabash

Keynote speaker Amara Ifeji is a youth advocate encouraging and supporting underrepresented students in their journey to become environmental stewards and climate justice activists. Soul food will be served. Entertainment and dancing are provided by Kalabash.

CNPE Book Club Explores Indigenous Perspective on Environmental Science

ESF students, faculty, and staff are invited to the Indigenous Environmental Science Book Club hosted by the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment. This semester, the group will be reading “Fresh Banana Leaves: Healing Indigenous Landscapes Through Indigenous Science” by Dr. Jessica Hernandez. The book club shares ideas, thoughts, tea, and snacks.
