Plant-Rich Diet Webinar Report

Thank you to all who attended our plant-rich webinar and who are engaging with plant-rich diet. We presented our webinar twice in June to a total of 94 attendees and reached professionals from 5 provinces including Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, P.E.I., and New Brunswick.

When combined with attendance from our C.A.R.E. (Clean Air, Respiratory Excellence) webinars, the Green Initiative is now officially coast to coast! It takes a team to make change and we are thrilled to have a diverse professional attendance as shown below.

Eating together and learning together - Hanover FHT

Team members from Hanover FHT with plant-rich snacks shared while

participating in the Plant-Rich webinar.

Congratulations to Hanover FHT, who gathered seven professionals together to watch the webinar live and share some plant-rich goodies (including carrot cake baked oatmeal with high protein icing, Buffalo chickpea wraps with ranch dressing, vegan snickers bars and more)! With their executive director, two clerical workers, a social worker, an addictions/mental health counsellor, a registered nurse, and a registered dietitian, they exemplify an interdisciplinary approach to learning.

Here's what attendees have to say about our webinars:

"The data on how much a plant [rich] diet can change health was staggering."

"Statistics - makes it real! Good info to have when counselling patients. Prescribing info great too. Helps to be able to offer small, incremental changes."

"Involvement of multidisciplinary team rounded out the information, drawing on expertise and honouring what each member brings to the table."

"Practical tips from the presenters."

Missed the plant-rich webinar? In the fall newsletter, we will share it in video format.

McMaster Tree Planting

This spring, staff and residents from McMaster Family Practice, McMaster's Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency program, and members from Trees for Hamilton volunteered their time to plant trees at Princess Point in Hamilton! To learn more about the connections between nature and health, check out our Nature's Health Benefits infographic and Trees for Hamilton.

Dundas Mask Recycling

The Dundas team has diverted over 63 meters worth of masks from going into the landfill by using mask recycling at their office. That accounts for over the length of a hockey rink or almost three tennis courts! These masks are now being sent to BC to be treated and converted into polypropylene pellets, which is a durable plastic material typically used in building, construction, and textiles. Way to go Dundas team!

If you would like to learn more about how to recycle masks in your practice, please check out of Green Corner issue about Mask Recycling.
