Green Drinks Event Attendance Soars at Paca Gardens
|
|
The July 11 Green Drinks event was a massive success in the most lovely setting of the William Paca House Garden. Attendees enjoyed networking with like-minded individuals, sipping on delicious drinks, and learning more about eco-friendly initiatives in the community. Our zero-waste evening and plastic-free theme reminded us that small actions can make a big difference.
Thank you, Historic Annapolis, for your generous hospitality and joining our efforts for a more beautiful and sustainable Annapolis! Save the Date; we will do it all again on September 28 for our fall Green Drinks at Market Space! Enjoy the below photos by Ken Tom. For the full gallery, click here!

Annapolis Green is proud to support businesses that support the planet and provide excellent products! April's Table diverts food waste from landfills by working with our friends at Annapolis Compost, who helped make July 11 a zero-waste event. Main and Market is a ready partner to Annapolis Green and others by providing green options and compostables for catering events. They were a key partner to us in our Military Bowl effort last December, which resulted in a Bowl Sustainability Award.
The Vineyards at Dodon and Crooked Crab Brewery were the local beverage providers of the evening. Like the food, these businesses are committed to the local community and champion environmental practices. Beyond the eco-minded principles, both make incredible beverages! July 11 Green Drinkers set a bar sales record, and our supply of Sauvignon Blanc and Rose could not keep up. If you missed these two outstanding wines, visit Dodon soon! Here is the Vineyard's events calendar.

Kicking off Maryland Buy Local Week
with a ZERO WASTE Cookout and by taking the #buylocalchallenge
|
|
The Governor's Buy Local Cookout on July 20 did more than just host two NAPTOWN TAPs. Working with Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks and his team, Annapolis Green, helped make this annual event zero waste for the first time! Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) supported the effort by sponsoring a NAPTOWN TAP, as seen here with Secretary Serena McIlwain.
Hosting an event that sends NO waste to landfills is a TEAM effort. We congratulate the planning team, the participating winning chefs, invitees, and our partner in compost - Veteran Compost. The July 20th event is the first of many in our state to celebrate Maryland Buy Local Week; read on for more on why we support buying local.

Why Buy Local?
Buying local is good for you, good for the local economy and good for the planet! Spending locally with farms and other makers helps you get products that are fresher and have traveled much shorter distances overall from farm to fork.
Plus, you're supporting independent family farms and local businesses, which helps strengthen the local economy.
Now more than ever, it's important to show support for your local farms. Shop at your local farms, farm stands, farmers' markets, wineries, grocers and markets that stock genuine local products. Take the Challenge!

The Choose Clean Water Coalition Needs Your Help
The water quality protections gained by the Conowingo Dam’s 2018 Certification under the Clean Water Act are under threat. Annapolis Green and its Choose Clean Water Coalition members oppose any efforts to weaken water quality conditions or negotiate behind closed doors.
Please read the letter from the Coalition addressed to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) regarding the Water Quality Certification for the Conowingo Dam and sign on here to show your support by the July 31 deadline.

Calling all Gardeners! The Unity Garden's Fall Grant Cycle will close on August 1. Unity Gardens, one of our 2023 GreenGive partners, aims to empower and educate diverse Anne Arundel County communities to create and sustain healthy ecological spaces that enhance life, one native garden at a time. Don't miss this chance to bring natives to your community garden!

Climate Change continues to be our focus, whether we bring this information to the public by advocating for driving electric, planting trees, growing food in our home gardens, reducing plastic waste, composting, and saving energy and water. Your support makes it possible for us to continue to do this important work
