First, as we enter the holiday season we are reminded of how grateful we are at Green Schools for all of the support we have received this year from local, state, national and international levels. Thank you for your continued dedication to helping us develop the next generation of green students and schools.
Second, we are all aware of the important United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) occurring right now. Please help us spread the word on the #Youth4Climate Social Media campaign to engage our youth in letting their voices be heard at this important conference. Also, follow President Obama on his trip to Paris through the White House blog, Twitter or Facebook.

Avalon Theisen Heading to COP 21-Paris |
We are so excited and proud of Green Schools Student Advisory Board Member and
Conserve It Forward Founder, Avalon Theisen for overwhelming dedication to youth and the environment. Through her campaigning efforts Avalon was able to raise enough money to travel to the COP 21 conference.
Please help us in wishing Avalon the best of luck with her presentations in Paris this month.

Green Schools joins No Planeta B initiative to catalyze Climate Action from Students, Schools, and their communities around the globe in lieu of the United Nations Climate Change Negotiations (
COP21
) in Paris in December.

- Schools commit to non-binding climate change mitigation actions such as implementing reduction strategies and reducing CO2 footprint, going paperless and/or meatless Mondays to name a few. Your commitment will be shared at a special UN event in Paris!

Green Schools is Excited to Partner with iMatter |
iMatter is a youth-driven climate change organization
dedicated to
listening to and amplifying the voice of the youngest generation, the generation that will be most impacted by the effects of climate change.
iMatter is currently piloting iMatterNow, a campaign to empower youth to stand up and demand immediate action in their cities,
where people will have to look them in the eye and realize their future is at stake
. Youth across the nation will be
demanding that their local governments develop and implement a plan to be free of fossil fuels by 2040. With unique online tools, including a Climate Report Card, the campaign will equip high school and middle school students to hold the adults and leaders of their cities accountable to truly protecting their future.

2016 U.S Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Application Deadlines Near |
Most participating state education authorities have winter submission deadlines for 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS), with nominations due to ED by Feb. 1. For applications, interested colleges and universities should contact their state higher education authorities, while schools and districts should contact their state education agencies. Schools, districts, and postsecondary institutions are only eligible if nominated by state authorities. Hearing from interested applicants may be helpful to those states considering participation. Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Mini-Grants |
Our friends at
Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots
want to help YOU identify and implement a community service campaign that benefits people, animals, and environment. This week, tell them what you have planned to better your community and you might be eligible for a $200 mini-grant to support your work.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for a Roots & Shoots mini-grant, you/your group must meet the following requirements:
- You reside in the United States.
- You are a registered member of Roots & Shoots. (It's free! If you're not already a member, register today.)
- Your group plans to spend the $200 grant on only items benefiting your Roots & Shoots campaign.
- Your group will complete a campaign report by May 27, 2016.
- Your group will complete a project profile on the Roots & Shoots website. (When your project is finished, you'll need to enter how many people participated, how many hours were worked, and how many people benefited.)

Experimental Farm Network: Fighting Climate Change |
The Experimental Farm Network is building a people-powered, grassroots, open-source plant breeding network that is focused on combating climate change.
They are working on developing perennial crop plants and agro-ecology systems that combat climate change through carbon sequestration. They are also working on breeding plants that can adapt to climate change regionally.

Miami University's Project Dragonfly Accepting 2016 Earth Expeditions Applications |
Now accepting applications for 2016 OXFORD, Ohio (Nov. 18, 2015) - Miami University's Project Dragonfly is accepting applications for 2016 Earth Expeditions graduate courses that offer extraordinary experiences in 15 countries throughout the world. New in 2016 are courses in Galápagos and Paraguay.
Earth Expeditions can build toward the Global Field Program (GFP), a master's degree that combines summer field courses worldwide with web learning communities so that students can complete the GFP master's part-time from anywhere in the United States or abroad.

Project Dragonfly also offers graduate courses and the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) master's degree co-delivered by premier learning institutions in Cincinnati, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, New York, Phoenix, San Diego and Seattle. The AIP master's takes place on-site and near AIP Master Institutions and through web-based learning communities.
Graduate tuition for all programs is greatly reduced because of support from Miami University.
